Larian Studios Forums Divine Divinity (English) Technical Problems Game crashes while using any skill

I have a freshly installed Div version 1.34a and it has been working fine for hours( 7 hours as xfire states). I am a survivor and have finished the healing quest and now I am in the farm lands, I've killed that the assassin of the brave knight and now I am at the road where the human and the drawf argue about their lack of driving . when I use ANY SKILL THE GAME CRASHES , yes any skill, magic,survivor based skills etc. Hopefully someone can help me because I'll hate to start a new game(and there is a chance that it still will crash). And no, I haven't modified any game files , cfg's etc. I was able to use skills during the assassin battle and maybe a bit after.

Heres a sample of the error;

My first thought would be that it's something conlficting with Xfire, but that would suprise me as I also use Xfire, nonetheless try turning Xfire off before you start playing, check if you can use a skill.

Does the game crashes if you use skills before you start the initial cutscene between the human and the dwarf, or only after you have seen the cutscene?
Have you tried going to Verdistis, trying skills there, then coming back and try to use skills here?

Try a new game and see if you can use skills, maybe your save file's corrupt.

Okay, its my save game <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" /> . It doesn't matter before or after the dialogue, it just crashes even when I go to Aleroth or any other area. So I guess the my saved game is faulty since I started a new game and tested out some random skills and there was no crash. Is there any way of fixing my save? I do not want to restart the game since I looted for hours, exploring so much and have a decent to excellent build I am working on.....

If you leave the immediate area of the cart crash and then return a few times to get that series of cutscenes over, does that make a difference?

Do you have previous recent saves with this character, that you could revert to, or perhaps narrow down when the problem occurred?

You could try using iZakaroN's SaveEditor (or from Kiya's site, with description) to unlearn all your skills, load the game and then re-learn them. First test with a spell you have not tried yet.
