Well I hope someone still checks the boards as often as I do. On to my question. In my first play through of the game I failed the Healing gem quest. I keep seeing Verlat mentioned later on in Verdisist. With out spoiling the game as much as possible since it is my frist play through, did I screw up the whole story-line by not saving this guy? Or is this a side quest I can chalk up to a loss and move on and still get through the game.

Thanks so much, this game is amazing by the way.

You get more experience and reputation for saving both men, obviously, but no other quests are broken for letting one of them die. If I had to choose, though, I would have saved Verlat, since, as mentioned, you run into him later in Verdistis and he has a nice gift to express his thanks. You never see Simon again. Either way, it's just a side quest.

Glad you like the game. It is quite spellbinding. mage

Medic;
Goemoe would have taught you a level of Restoration had you healed both soldiers. However you may see that spell book offered for sale, in addition to a couple other sources of Restoration levels, so missing it isn't a big deal. Restoration is handy near the start of the game to conserve food (meat and bread) and potions, but you'll probably eventually switch to restoration potions anyway.

Verlat would have given you
a ring. It is potentially one of the better rings in the game, but I'm sure you can find or buy something acceptable to use instead.

Flixerflax;
Does Verlat show up in Verdistis if you only healed him? I thought you had to heal both, but am not sure.

You know, that's a good question. I've never done the game without healing both, at least not that I remember. Now it's bugging me; I'll have to check.
