I have reloaded trying to get good stats for the sword of Gods - like 15 times or so, but I keep getting damage 21-50 or 31-80 ... I do not get it, I have played the game before - and gotten great stats for this weapon. I am in the wastelands - not in Aleroth dungons!!! mad

The other stats are fine, some really nice 4-5 level stuff like frost/mana-drain/life-drain etc.

I would really like to have this sword, since I do not have any really good one hand sword. (I chose the Nobelman amulet instead of the sword) But honestly ... 21-50/31-80 - wastelands ?????

Do any of you guys have an idea why?

Random chance? If you are getting lots of good bonuses, there is less 'value' left over for the damage stat. With the maximum damage range of 71-100 for dropped/found items, there are fewer possible bonuses.

Unless you are at a fairly low character level, if you keep reloading you should eventually start getting the maximum damage. The higher the character level you are at (within reason) the more likely you are to get stats in the upper range for any particular piece of equipment.

I am level 47, the highest damage stat. I have gotten is 70-100. And the reason I wonder too about it is that I got the Axe of a Hundred crusades or something like that and it had 80-130 damage stat + some really nice bonuses ...

the highest damage stat. I have gotten is 70-100.

That is the best you can get for a found or dropped one handed sword. It is possible to purchase one handed swords with a slightly higher damage range, but I don't recall exactly what range was reported (something like 80-110).

70-100 is good for a one handed sword, no? smile

That's what I had with one of my characters.

Guess I just didn´t know that the highst damage for one-handed swords were like 70-100, and also when I realoaded I would mostly get 21-50 and only 70-100 like one out of 10 times or so. Anyway, it works nicely smile

Yeah I kept getting low scores so I just gave up on it and got the amulet.

That's the Nobleman's Sword, not the Sword of the Gods. I don't recall off hand if there was damage variation between the two.

So I decided to check it out... smile

And yes, my Nobleman's Sword does much less damage: 31-60. Normal I guess: you get it much earlier in the game (if you know where to look for it of course wink ).

I actually wondered about that - the difference between the Nobelman sword and the Sword of the Gods. The other times I played DD I chose the sword over the amulet, but I do not remember the stats for it - only that it was a great sword. Thanks for the info smile

I didn't enter the Dark Forest until after clearing most of Rivertown and Verdistis, and going through the castle and the following quests, so did the holy item quest relatively late. The Sword of the Gods was a little better than the Nobleman's sword for me (reloaded for both); playing again I would probably take the Nobleman's amulet instead, as it is relatively easy to find a good sword.

Sword Of The Gods

Durability 24
Charm Quality 1
Damage 71-100
4 Strength
6 Agility
6 Intelligence
4 Constitution
4 Offense
100 Vitality
60 Magic
DeathBlow(3)
LifeDrain(5)

- DeathBlow shakes the screen; had this happened more frequently, I would have had to re-load a previous save, as I found it annoying.

Nobleman's Sword

Durability 12
Charm Quality 3
Damage 71-100
2 Strength
4 Agility
6 Constitution
60 Magic
Life Drain(4)
Stun(5)
lightning Damage(5)
Spiritual Damage(4)

I don't recall what I got when I tried a few times for the holy amulet. I was very tempted by one, which was better than what I had, but since I was using a two handed sword, taking the holy sword allowed me to start using the dragon shield.

Amulet Of Glory - found at the bottom of the Aleroth catacombs, and used for the rest of the game

Durability 10
Charm Quality 2
10 Strength (gold charm, from first dragon rider Zandalor killed, and the only charm I used)
40 Vitality
40 Magic
10 Resistance to Fire

And since I mentioned these above:

Bastard Sword - two handed, from the knight south of Stormfist castle. After getting this I had to go up a level (or was it 2?) and use a gold strength charm before I could meet the strength requirements to equip it.

Durability 22
Charm Quality 4
Damage 68-113
Lightning Damage(2)
Life drain(3)
mana Drain(2)

Shield Of The Dragon

Durability 45
Charm Quality 2
Armour 280
2 Strength
6 Agility
8 Constitution
80 Vitality
20 Resistance to Fire
10 Resistance to Poison
3 Hearing
Elven Stamina +1
Deadly Gift +1

That is some nice list you made there! And you are right - They are both good swords, the difference is not that big. Do you know if they are the only two really good one-hand swords in the game? I have never come across any that could match the two, but then again - perhaps I didn´t reload enough smile I wanted the Sword of the Gods to be really good because I also wanted to use the Dragon shield along with it, since I chose the Amulet over the Sword earlier smile
I too had to wait quite some time to have the strenght to be able to use the bastard sword as well, and by the time I had the strenght - I had found another weapon I had grown found of ... (Don´t remember which) So I never really used it.

The stats I got for the Nobelman´s amulet in this game is:

Durability 10
Charm Quality 5
22 to Strenght
26 to Agility
14 to Intelligence
6 to Constituion
5 to offence
80 to Vitality
20 to Magic
10 Resistance to Lightning
5 Resistance to Poison
4 to Sight

Not bad!

I am quite sure I got it quite late in the game too - after clearing Riverton and Verdistis and having started to explore the dark forest (the elven ruins area)

The Sword of the Gods and the Nobleman's Sword are potentially the best one handed swords in the game (at #1 and 2, respectively), but there are other good swords, as well. IIRC purchased bastard swords are one handed, and can have quite good stats (check with the smith in Ars Magicana). Seth drops a potentially good sword (one handed, I think) if you kill him before the healers leave Aleroth (if you cast Poison Cloud near an NPC, but not directly on them, they will take damage but not turn hostile, and you will not loose any reputation). The Singing Blade, dropped by Pedro in the Ars Magicana sewers, can also be good...

Here is an old topic about One Handed Swords, with relevant discussion and links to a couple other topics. Screenshot links are all broken by now, but the majority of stats got typed as well.

I'm assuming that 68 stat point bonus on the amulet includes a few charms?
The highest stat bonus I got (at least on equipment that I kept and used) was 10 to any particular stat (not counting the one charm I used), and at most about 18 spread over several stats. I always tried to maximize the damage of weapons or the armour class of armour, though, which reduces the quantity and quality of available bonuses.

Arhh - I keep forgetting about the charms I included (probably because I keep ´forgetting which is which - sorry about that! I had put in some gold charms on strenght and agility ... Which makes them "normal" then.

Nice tip about the poison cloud and Seth outside Aleroth - I will definitly have to try that out next time I play. I don´t think I have ever used the Singing Blade - probably because I, at the time I got to it, had another weapon I prefered.

Thanks for the link about the one-hand swords - I think I got it more or less covered now rpg001
