Larian Studios Forums Beyond Divinity (English) Help/Tips/Tricks Can't learn Ranaar Language

I missed most of the books that teach the Ranaar language in Acts 1-3. However, I've found all of the series scattered around the first level of Act 4. Yet none of them have any effect when I read them. So far I've tried reading them from the floor and from both inventories, and saving and reloading. I don't think it will prevent me from progressing in the game and I can kinda make out the Ranaar letters, but it would nice to be able to actually have the language translated. Any ideas why the books don't work?

There is one book in each of the first 3 acts which teaches part of the Raanaar language when you read it (in the act it is found). If you miss them, or do not read them in the associated act, you will not get the translations. It may be possible to determine what gets changed when these books are read, and figure out a manual way to get the translations....

In any case, you are right that nothing essential is written in ruins, IIRC just pieces of the background story or texts meant to add to the atmosphere, etc. If you skim through the Beyond Divinity Strategy Guide you should be able to get most of the translated text.

Thanks for the info... that's kinda lame, why even include them if they're just teaser dummy books? I only made it a point to get them in Act IV since their locations are all mentioned as important items in the strategy guide. Still, shouldn't at least one of them work - the one that is exclusive to Act IV?

There is no book on the Raanaar language in act 4; there are some in the Raanaar language, but none that help automatically translate.

I feel silly. Now that I've looked again I realize I've been collecting the four books on Raanaar magic, not the language books at all.
