If you've completed Maria's quest, and told her that in the poor section of Rivertown, then she will return to the Merchant's Guild in Verdistis. Talk to her there and she will vouch for your reputation to Trevor. Then go and talk to Trevor about a house and he'll give you Malcolm's. For 50,000gp. There is much debate as to whether it is worth it. So far as I know, the houses in Aleroth remain available throughout the game until you go to the wastelands, so probably you're better off using those to rest up at (or carrying a bed around with you - it is possible) and keeping the money to buy spellbooks or fancy charms in the wastelands.

I have another question: What's the purpose to buy a house?

You get experience points for buying the house in Verdistis. Other than that, I don't really see any reason to prefer that house to any other place you can just take over (I bought the house, but didn't use it).

Indeed. I used it just because it was mine, but other than that there's no reason to stop using the empty house in Aleroth for instance.

I am in blood
Stepp'd in so far, that, should I wade no more,
Returning were as tedious as go o'er.
