Strange.... Does it work if you bring up the map directly with the A hotkey?

Is your desktop colour depth set to 16 bit? Some have had problems with their mini-map with it set to 32 bit.
Try running the configuration program and switching to software or Direct Draw mode, to see if that helps.

Try deleting all of the files in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\Dynamic' folder.
This folder is used as a cache for the game. Files are created / copied there from the save game folder when you load, and written / copied from that folder when you save a game. The files will be re-created as required the next time you start Divinity. If there was a corrupt file in that folder, deleting the files should fix the problem.
After this, try starting a new game and see if the you still have a problem with the maps.

in direct draw it still doesnt work - although the mini map is blue this time before i delete any game files i want to be 100% positive that its dynamic files i delete - im also gonna try running the game in 800 x 600 - it still doesnt work in other resolutions... i remeber that last time i installed the game it wouldnt work - then i found out how to make it work

You can also just move the files in the dynamic folder to another location. Then even if you move the wrong files, etc. you can just move them back.
Did you check your colour depth? Right click on an open area of the desktop, select Properties, Settings tab; try 16 bit / High colour if it is set to 32 bit / True colour.

It is unlikely a corrupt file in the dynamic folder, especially since this happened with a previous install. Do you remember even vaguely what you did to fix it?

the most i can remember about it was that i may have re installed the game! woo hoo ill give it a try now if it still doesnt work ill try uninstalling it and re installing it on minimum space - i may not have done but i think i may have - i recal when i installed the game it had decompression errors when it got to the auto map files

See Troubleshooting and Manual Install Procedure. I am planning on updating the CRC file mentioned (for file verification) for the v1.34 patch later tonight (hopefully).

oh then i better tell you that theres also an error that occurs in one of the character surf files (dunno if youll understand but hopefully you should) - maybe i should tell you that i was playing it on maximum install, and the game works perfectly with no errors on minimum install

Strange. The Technical Support FAQ mentions a problem (#9) that occurs on some systems with a minimum install, but works fine with a full install. With a minimum install the game would need to grab stuff off the CD.... Maybe there was an problem during the full install that you didn't run into during the minimum one?

during the minimum install the game never reported any CRC errors (the decompression errors) because you didnt need to use disc 2 in the installation procedure - all the CRC errors were on disc 2

In the '..\Run\static\heroes' folder, there are surfA.bic and surfA.idc, etc. files. Maybe the idc files are lower quality versions of the bic files?
If you manually extract the rar files on disk 2, do you still get errors? There were no changes to these files from 1.29 to 1.33, so I doubt the latest patch made an updates. If you can extract them as per the manual install procedure, you would not need to re-install the game/patch.

I assumed the difference between the minimum and full install was that files from the play disk were copied to the hard drive for faster access. If disk 2 is not needed for the minimum install, though, these must be optional files. They may be higher quality versions of animations, or something, but since I don't know what a .bic file is, that's just a guess.

what happened was - i inserted disc 2 - on 2 occasions it said crc error but i just clicked ok and it carried on as normal - i play the game and the mini map and journal map dont work

if i minimum install disc 2 doesnt need to be inserted so it doesnt give any error messages and it just loads up what it needs during the game - the mini map and journal map work fine

it could be what you say and if you do a maximum install it installs a high graphic thing for the map

or maybe my computer cant handle the maximum install for some strange reason - my proccesser is an AMD Athlon 1700+, i have 256 MB RAM, my graphics card is an ATI Radeon and i have a 30 gig hard drive
