After having the game for a few weeks I've finally been able to sit down and really start playing it. So far I think it's great and I'm looking forward to spending alot of time playing through it! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I had some questions/concerns that I hoped some of the DD vets around here could help me with.

I'm playing as a warrior class and so far everything has been pretty straight forward. Most of this stuff is just me trying to look into the future and to clear up some things I have noticed thus far:

- I have put one point into the alchemy skill which has worked out really well as I have been making plenty of minor restoration pots. Is it worth putting any more into??

- I have found many lock-picks and so far only a couple of chests in the 3rd catacomb level have been the only things I think I would have needed them for. Should I spend a point or two into lockpicking?

- I want to use sword and shield as my weapon but so far the only good weapons I have found or seen for purchase are either axes or mace/hammer style weapons while I still only have a regular short sword. Should I switch my specialty over to axes or blunt style weapons?

- Are there such items with mana or life steal attributes on them in this game?

- I played Diablo 2 for a year or so and the way DD shows its item details seems to be similar. However, I'm not real sure what the color codes mean for the weapon names.... white = normal item? blue = magical item? what about the gray and green colored names?

- Is there a site on the web that has a detailed list of all the unique/rare/elite items in the game that could be found? Also, more information on the various charms to be found?

Sorry if this is too long. I did look over the sticky topics and didnt see anything there that really covered what I need to know at this time.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Welcome to the forums, Shug!

There is an ALCHEMY SPOILER THREAD that might help you.

There are keys for most things. Lockpicking is fairly popular though. It depends on how much you want to search. You need it to complete a side-quest later in the game.

Swords are plentiful later in the game. And the other expertises (including shield) are broken. Only Sword and Bow work properly.

You can drain life with weapon enhancements and I've heard only one case of being able to drain mana.

Each colour is a different level of magic. There is a list somewhere else in the forum, I'm not sure where though. They don't mean much overall.

Almost all items in Divine Divinity are random, even those critical to the story. You could find lists where to find them, but their statistics will always be random.

The charms come in four different levels, Green, Red, Silver and Gold, and can boost your attributes or resistances.

Lots of luck! Have Fun.

Here are my opinions:

Alchemy is a good skill but one point is probably enough unless you're always running out of ways to get life and mana back. You can get another point in it later in the game as a reward, too.

Lockpick is a great skill. At first I hated to put points in it because I thought there would always be a key or lever to wherever I needed to go. Two or three points is good, plus you can learn it later in the game as a reward, also. There's one special quest that requires level 4 or 5 (the treasure maps) and I was mad because I only had level three and couldn't get the last map.

I suggest you stick to swords. The swords get better and better in the game and it's good to have a shield instead of a big two handed hammer. Try completing the Holy weapons quest later in the game and you will get the best sword in the game (in my opinion) if you choose it.

All I can add about weapon name colors is that the golden yellow ones are items that can be charmed. But I guess that's obvious. =)

With the 1.32 hotfix or below, weapon expertise with fixed damage ranges were broke (speed bonuses, etc. would be applied, but not the additional damage). That is not the case with the 1.34 patch. Actually, Shield Expertise now works better than it should (the extra damage is still applied if you use a two-handed sword).
See Game still buggy, when do the next patch come? for all the gory details.

No. One allows you to combine potions, which is all you really need.

It's worth getting lockpick lvl 5 when you can. One of the most useful skills in the game.

Stick with swords. The catacombs are a total anomaly. Virtually every decent weapon you will find - and the only two good one-handed weapons - are swords.

Yes <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

No idea I'm afraid...

The stats on all items are randomly generated, so I'm not sure that would be possible...

I would like to see a list of all the uniques in the game tho. Random stats aside, it would be handy to know where they are... nothing makes me more frustrated then not havieng saved for a half an hour, and finding a unique item that has stats so bad that its not even worth selling.. *you know, 1 charm slot, 1 str 4 agility and a level of boomerang or something useless* Just makes me sad that such resource is wasted =x I like to save/load, i dont do it all day to find the 'perfect' item, but i like for things to atleast be useful=p

But unless theres a way to extract this info from the game.. i dont think it would really be possable.. there are ALOT of items that are hand placed in the game..

Save more frequently. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Is the amulet of glory that good? It seems kinda odd comeing from a begining area.. I always thought that was something special.. but i assumed i would find maby a yellow or orange amulet somewhere along the line, and that simple green one would be replaced. see im worried that ill overlook something, becaus i have no idea what the real end game looks like yet, im insecure in my ability to judge the items i find D=

There are a few other good amulets in the game; in the basement of the cursed Abbey, in Janus mother's house, in the castle treasure room, the holy amulet (that would have been better than the Amulet of Glory, but I went for the holy sword instead).....
Just go with whatever the best equipment is when you find it, and you should be more than ready for the end of the game (I found it easy).
