I went to Swen, got an upgrade of my armour, and now I have this:



So is it invisible? As you can see, my char doesn't have any armour equipped.

Well, I was wearing it, and got killed by three blows from one of those special insane skeletons in the dark forest area near the talking tree. So I wonder...

did you check to see if your stats changed when wearing/not wearing it?
