I was doing the ole ctrl+s and ctrl-l for the dragon belt (The lottery system is a curse I find myself doing ctrl-l over and over again trying to get a better item!) but that is not the point. I id'd the belt and liked what I saw so I saved the game, but the belt was still in the chest when I saved it. I continued on with my game but had to reload because I did something stupid. When I reloaded I was back at the point where I had id'd the belt but had not removed it from the chest. I clicked on the chest to close it and open it again so I could get hte belt, only to find that it was unidentified! I still had that point in my quicksave so I reloaded and tested it. Sure enough, if I did not remove the item from the chest after identifying it and before saving it, the item became unidentified after loading the save game. I didn't have this problem if I removed the item from the chest and then saved the game.

If you do not move the item before saving, the stats are not set. I did the same thing with the ring the soldier you heal in Aleroth gives you when you get to Verdistis. I saved a fairly nice ring after a couple of quick loads, and after another few tries, figured I wasn't going to get anything better, so loaded the previous save to find it was now a crappy ring. This ticked me off <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" /> and I re-loaded the better part of an hour to get something as good.
