Hello all, i'm wondering how to best use charms efficiently. Should i go for stats or vit/magic or resistance?

Any pointers?

What I do is wait until I have my final gear, then only put in Gold Charms. As for the particular type, You can't go wrong with Gold +100 vitality charms.

If it's a choice between +Vitality and +Mana or +Constitution and +Intelligence of the same colour, go for the +Vitality/Magic and not ones which boost the CON and INT stats. The stat charms give a bonus of 10 to one stat, which is great, but it will always be less then a direct bonus.

Resistances are pretty easy to come by, and can usually be ignored.

I agree with Stabbey, pretty much. However, it does depend on the equipment you find/buy to an extent, as well as your playing style. If you are getting lots of vitality bonuses on armour, and rarely need a restoration potion, then you don't really need to add more.

I held off using charms until I had great equipment, but by that time I didn't need the extra bonus. If you need a boost, and merchants don't have much in the way of upgrades, I wouldn't worry too much about using charms on poor equipment (though you will loose the value of the charm if you later sell it). Silver charms can be bought (I wouldn't use anything less than that) and gold becomes easy to come by as the game progresses. Gold charms can be bought, and found more readily, near the end of the game.

Between Magic Barrier and equipment bonuses, I never had a problem with resistances. For equipment bonuses I tended to prefer stat boosts to vitality/magic most of the game, but early in the game a few vitality/magic bonuses will be a great help. Playing a warrior I had lots of mana for occasional spells just from magic and intelligence bonuses on equipment.

thanks stabbey and raze. You guys are a great help.
I thought so too that direct bonus to vitality and magic is better than consti or intelligence increase.

Well, i can understand that we should only put gold charms (which is the strongest) into final gear.
At the moment, i have some quite decent magical stuffs with lots of charm quality and there are several bronze and silver charms sitting ducks in my inventory. I thought of putting it to further enhance my character. Seriously though, i don't have much problem killing most monsters.

Btw, is resistances very easy to come by? My resistance now is a little too low but thankfully not too many elemental monsters.

Is it wise to slot in golden charm which gives strength bonus?
I'm generally afraid to screw up my game by slotting into unnecessary charms into final gears laugh

Stats on equipment are random, but generally speaking you should get enough resistance between Magic Barrier and equipment bonuses. If you run into problems, you could also start using Spell Shield (which is particularly helpful with poison damage); I maxed this skill, as well as Aura of Guarding, with purchased spell books.

The only charm I used in my first game was a gold strength charm. It allowed me to equip the two handed Bastard Sword dropped by the knight by Stormfist Castle a couple levels earlier than I would have been able to otherwise. If you need the strength to meet an equipment requirement, then go ahead. If you don't really need a bonus, but that is the gold charm you have available, then it still wouldn't be a bad idea to use it, as long as you leave enough open charm slots that you can adapt to whatever your requirements are when you get access to more gold charms.
