I'm having a lot of problems with the game (including the fact that I couldn't start it at all - which I fixed by installing the latest drivers for my GC and PhysX). Some graphical options made the game crash and never reopen (untill I remove the files with the options from the Application Data folders - after some tweaking I finally found "safe" options that the game accepts).

The problem I have now, that I cannot go past is the fact that I'm totally unable to load a saved game (none of the saves is working). Has anyone experienced this and how can I procede past this?

1) I know my way around a computer (sorry my previous post didn't explain that enough).

2) Why do you need a screanie showing a result of the environment variable to the usrname on my comp?

If you want to know if I have any odd characters in my username - I don't. And obviously the game itself can see the save folder. I can save just fine. I can see the savegame files in the appropriate folder, when I check it with the Explorer. I can choose a specific save from the game's load menue. It crashes exactly after the loading screen is done. It may or may not be a bug similar to the loading screen issue. But I most certainly doubt it, as I actually can start a new game and play it for a while.

I could give the exact error message I get (it's in the event log):

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: xxx
Time: xxx
User: N/A
Computer: xx

Description:
Faulting application divinity2.exe, version 1.0.13.67, faulting module divinity2.dll, version 1.0.13.67, fault address 0x00c26ad8.

It's always the same fault address.

offtopic *sigh* on another note, I'm probably not ment to play this game. The first issue I had was with my DVD-RAM not seeing the game DVD at all (it showed empty). So I bought a new DVD-RAM.

When you did this : untill I remove the files with the options from the Application Data folders - after some tweaking I finally found "safe" options that the game accepts). You probably hosed the game.

Save your saved games somewhere.
Uninstall the game.
Re-install and then copy your save games back over.

Did you have the resolution problem for widescreen monitors or some other issue before?

Nah, I doubt it got hosed, since the game puts new setting files in the Profile folder as soon as it's started. I can't really say that it was connected specifically to widescreen, as my current setting for the game is for 1680x1050.

I haven't yet tried reinstalling and installing. I probably should, just to be on the safe side.

The game does not save the graphics options properly if the username contains non-Latin characters (other settings are ok, though, just the graphics options revert to default the next time the game is started).

Were you ever able to load these saves, or did you just save during your first session, and were unable to load them for the second?

When you started a new game, did you try to save and then load it?

As I said, only latin characters in my username.

And yes, I did several saves during my first session that I couldn't load again. The same if I started a 2nd session and made a save stright away - couldn't load it. The same with the autosaves.

I did get a 2nd wind for testing, and I managed to get a workaround that works 1/3rd of the time.

1) Revert the game to "default" graphical options.
2) Leave the resolution, but change the setting to "single-core optimised".
3) Try loading.

If the game crahses:
4) Start it again
5) Make sure it still has the graphical options from step 1 & 2.
6) Start a new game (don't bother with the character, just choose to play).
7) skip through the 1st dialog.
8) Load a saved game.
9) Now you're free to change the graphical settings again to what works for you. (If I do that before loading - the game refuses to load again).

There's still something clearly wrong, but at least I can move past it, with some excercise in patience.

And after seeing the entering logos and the intro movie for oh so many times... I beg you.... a skip key??? Pretty please with cherry on top?

Can you find the intro video files in the game folder and rename them? If that doesn't work, someone else mentioned replacing the 3 files with a copy of a different video (which was much shorter).

You didn't answer. Do you really need a help?

Do you have ani AV-software running while playing the game? Or any other software that runs with admin/system rights?

I did answer - twice.

Always. Since I'm always connected to Internet, I'm never going to turn AV-off. Never have had any problems with any games and my AV. I have other stuff running with admin rights (BuzzSaw for example). I don't always turn them off before playing. Considering what seems to work for me, I'm betting this has to do with graphics.

.... You don't need to keep your AV on all the time.

If you don't run strange software like MSN... IRC and other things that can give acess to your PC. It is safe to run a complete scan with your AV then after it remove ALL suspicious things... even if you think they are safe... just let the AV delete all suspicious files, then just DISABLE the AV.

Always connected to Internet don't mean that hackers can get to you. I recomend that you let your AV on (firewall and services scan), but disable the ability that it has to scan all the files in realtime, it make all games slower since it first scan the files before giving it to the games.

HA!! It works, and no. Not due to the patch - I haven't got it yet.

The game frustrated me enough, so I decided to wait untill the patch comes out. And since I'm a gamer, I played other games in meantime... And Divinity 2 got forgottten...

This weekend I installed a new GC (a Radeon 5750). Since Divinity was the latest purchase, I dug it out popped the disc in. Set all the graphic sliders to highest and clicked on load..

I spent all weekend playing the game! (still without the patch).

Got only 2 never ending loading screens (out of lots of loads). That's it.
Saving and loading games works just fine.

Isn't it odd that while I had the reccomended nvidia card it was all very buggy, but with an ATI card ("best played with Nvidia the game says) it works just fine??

[Edit] Forgot to mension that even stuttering is gone (I didn't post about it, since it was a minor issue compared to the otehrs).
