This is a thread that will be devoted to helping me throughout the game, if anybody is interested. I put the user Raze in the topic because he seemed to be very knowledgable and very around. Naturally, I would appreciate any help or opinions that anyone could give me.

If anybody would be interested in pretty much being my online tutor in this game, just drop a line here. I will be back quit often to check and see if anybody wants to help me out. Have a good day to all, and to all a good day.

Well, thank ya sir.

I suppose I should tell you a little bit about what is going on. I'm several hours in, I believe I'm around level 15. I'll have to check my stats. *goes and checks

I just turned lvl 16.

60 Str
50 Agi
10 Magic
10 Constitution

I had read up a bit on character development, and it was suggested to put most (or all, in my case) into Agi and Str so you could get access to equipment. Well, I'm definitely at the point that I can use everything I've come across... so I was wondering if it was high time to start putting some points into Constitution or Magic. I'm a warrior, btw... I suppose I should mention that.

I read the link about the restoration potions (glad to know, didn't know or forgot that they fill up a %). It also mentioned that you get an alchemy point in the Dark Forest which I have not gotten, which I need to get... cause I am a huge fan of alchemy. Already have 3 points in it... I suppose I need to get that point from the quest. I also heard that lvl 5 alchemy isn't that useful, and it doesn't really appear to be.

I only have one point in Restoration because I read that there are several free points for that in the game, which I only got the one from the lizard in Aleroth.

I believe I have two in both Deadly Gift and Poison Weapon... I hear they are dreadfully overpowered, but that's fine with me. I'm not above being cheap to get past a difficult part in the game.

Augment Damage and Defense have to be good... so I have been putting points in them.

I'm sure the passive weapon skill (swords, axes, maces, etc) is great... but I haven't put any in it yet cause I don't really know what I'll end up using for good. I'm using the 5 charm axe that I found in the catacombs under Aleroth.

Any suggestions on the elemental damage skills? I haven't messed with any of those yet.

I put points in Lockpick because it seems to have served a purpose thus far.

So basically, for now I am asking advice on future character development. Don't worry about spoilers because it's not that big of a deal to me... just try to avoid HUGE ones.

Hold on to any items with "Pickpocket +1", Telekinesis +1", "Identify +1", or "Alchemy +1",

Additional free Restoration points:

1. Get into Nericon's Garden and answer the questions correctly.
2. Find out who murdered George, kill them, then return to Mardaneus.
3. Have 2 points into Telekinesis, and explore the Rivertown Sewers. Telekinesis is pretty useless, so try and find spellbooks or items with +1 Telekinesis.

If you've survived so far with only 10 constitution, you might not need any more. But that's risky, because later enemies do more damage, and enemies come in packs, so even moderate damage can add up fast. If you stay with just 10 Constitution, you'll want to look for many items with +Vitality.

If you're a warrior, then don't put anything into Intelligence, you get a pitifully small amount of mana (3) per point.

Identical colour Charms with +Vitality or +Magic are much more powerful than the same colour charms with +Constituion and +Intelligence. Gold colour charms are the best, save those for your final gear. However, they won't start dropping regularly until you already reach a point where you should have most of your final gear anyway.

If you haven't completed the "Missing Boy"/Dark Cave guest, keep 5 attribute points in reserve until you do that.

There are two free points available in Lockpick:

Both are available in the Thieves' Guild.
If you pass the tests, the guildmaster will offer to train you in a skill of your choice. OCKpicking is the best one. To pass the tests, though, You'll need 1 point in Pickpocketing. Pickpocketing is pretty useless though, so try and find an item with +1 to that skill.

A member of the Thieves guild will offer you a bet that you can't lockpick a Rank 5 door. If you lose, it will cost you 5,000 gold, but you get taught a rank of Lockpick

The thing with the elemental Damage bonuses is that they're permenant and they (might)stack with bonuses on the weapons. Invest heavily or not at all. It's not like a pure warrior has much else to invest in. One thing to note is that late game, most enemies will have high resistances or immunity. Stun is a good passive attack, but it also suffers from enemies with immunity to Spiritual Damage.

There are good swords and axes throughout the game. If you're playing the GoG version, then it doesn't really matter which you choose. If you're playing the older version, then go for Swords. Pick only one mastery and stick with it.

Don't get Wisdom, it isn't worth it. Neither is the Survivor skill which grants (very slow) health regeneration.

Augment Defense is good, Augment Damage isnot so good. At max level, it adds at most 10-20 damage. That's flat damage, not 10-20% (as far as I know. 10-20% would be better) Stun would be better.

I would probably start putting some into constitution, but if you are not getting hurt much then you don't have to worry too much about it. You should get more then enough mana from mana and intelligence equipment bonuses.

If you have or learn level 1 in Sword Expertise or Augment Damage (the starting skills for the male warrior), the next time you save and load the game you will have level 2 in these skills.

Free skills, and spell books you can buy

I ignored the elemental damage skills, due to their low chance to hit (it gets better when maxed, but by that time I didn't really need the extra boost). I found the passive Stun skill quite handy, though.

I maxed Wisdom. It only gives you an extra level by the end of the game, but as a warrior I had plenty of spare skill points anyway.
Wisdom - is it worth the skill points?

I found Survivor's Instinct marginally handy to top of your hit points when you go trade or drop off loot. It isn't fast enough to make a noticeable difference during battle, though. I put a couple skill points in to test it out half way through the game, or so, and then maxed it when I got to the wastelands, trying to use up some skill points.

Is completing that quest worth it? I usually play a pretty good inclined character (just murdering everybody always seemed boring to me) but I think I can sleep OK at night if a little computer boy gets killed by a vampire if it's going to take a levels worth of stats from me... I mean, it can't give you a level's worth of exp... does it?

Anyway, thanks for all of the advice.

I seemed to have done OK without adding to Con, but I can't really seem to hack it in the Cursed Abbey or the Graveyard above the Nericon Gardens. It's the Dark Zombies in the Graveyard and the Steel Guardians at the Abbey. I can tackle the other enemies there.

You randomly loose 1-4 stat points (most often 3) from the vampire if you save the boy. There are 2 level bonuses in the game and a 5 stat point bonus from the shrine of good and evil (save first, as it can also give a 5 stat point penalty), so I wasn't too worried about the loss (I had lots of charms and equipment with empty slots I never used). That said, technically I'm not sure it is a great trade for a bit of experience, reputation and a level of Bless, if you are not role-playing a hero.

You need to be in the high teens or early twenties for character level to handle the cursed abbey and surrounding area (though it is easier to take out the zombies with a ranged attack). Spell Shield helps with the zombies' poison attacks, since the damage comes off the shield, and you don't jerk around with reduced offensive and defensive capabilities.
The graveyard above Nericon's garden was designed to be cleared after you had been to the castle (after a detour leaving the castle, that is where you end up). Before the latest update it could not be lockpicked (though the Nericon's garden key would open the gate, and there was a duplicate key in the Ars Magicana potion dealer's back room, though it is a little tricky to get). I did most of the quests in Rivertown and Verdistis and cleared the Rivertown sewers before entering the castle, so had no problems with the graveyard.

Well, see... I am a numbnut and went to Stormfist castle at like lvl 12. It's amazing that I got out of there, but after much frustration and I finally crawled my way out of the dungeon they put me in.

This morning, I have working on the cursed abbey with much difficulty, but have cleared out a good bit of it using scorpions to distract things while I ran around with trail bombs and one hit enemies with my poisoned weapon. Perhaps I'll just go work on the sewers for now and come back and do that stuff later. I believe I am lvl 17 now.

My question about swords and axes is that the the passive sword skill seems to be better than the axe as it adds to +hit and increases damage by a percentage and not by a flat rate. Do axes hit that much harder? Maybe I shouldn't have sold that Lightning Claymore after all, seeing I already have those free two points in the passive sword skill and haven't bothered to put more in any other one because I didn't know what weapon(s) I'd end up using.

I am still debating on whether or not to put points in Con (I need to look at the formula again to see how many HP I would get for 5 points in) because I definitely feel like I could use more HP... though I always want to put stuff in Agi because I don't feel like I am hitting stuff enough. Then again, I'm in a area a bit above my level so I think I'm headed for the sewers.

Thanks for everything so far!

The GoG version changes the other weapon masteries skills to use a percentage bonus, so if you have the older version, then definitely stick with swords. Swords will be better in your game for that reason.

Warriors will get 6 HP per point into Constitution (30 for 5 points).

Hover your cursor over the Offense and Defense stats on your character info page and it should show you your percentage ot hit or be hit. The maximum to hit is 94%, the minimum to BE hit is 19%. Spend enough agility points to keep things high.

If you're OK with letting the kid die, then feel free to do that, it's a viable option. one level of Bless isn't that great (even maxed out Bless expires too quickly). If you let the kid die, the Vampire will be weaker when you fight him.

If you're level 17, you might want to kill the level 17ish orcs in the southeast, instead of the level 20-30 enemies in the sewers. There are some level 37 orcs in the far southeast, though.

I cleaned out the sewers and above ground area in the graveyard. I haven't gone in the crypt yet or got into the large building. I'll probably go back and finish the abbey soon... but I hadn't thought about going back and killing all the orcs. Good call on that one. (lvl 19 now, btw).

Where in Sam Hill the vampire that killed George? I've ran all around Verdistus and found a new quest or two, but no sign of him. I'd really like to get that free restoration skill.

That vampire is in the cellar of the wine merchant's place, north of the Ducal inn (IIRC you may have to move some boxes/crates). Make sure you go through all the speech options before fighting him.

Ooh... thanks a bunch.

What is everybody's opinion on the Might skill... the one that raises your strength?

I know Corrina is in Verdistus, but where?

Bad news for me: I killed the vampire that killed George and it says the quest for exposing George's murder has been solved. I now have an open quest that tells me to inform Mardaneus about George's murder yet when I speak to Mardaneus it gives me no option to tell him. frown

I didn't bother with temporary buffs, spells or potions, but they could come in handy for tough fights.

Corrina is just south of the park (you should get a cutscene of 3 gossiping women as you approach her house).

Where is Mardaneous now? A couple people have had problems finishing the murder quest after he moved to the council hall.

That is the catch, Raze... I'm not that far into the story. Mardaneus is still at his house in Aleroth... I haven't even rescued Zal from Stormfist yet. I think I just got hit in the mouth frown

Did you refuse to get George the Drudanae herb at the start of the game? That will break the murder quest, even if you later bring him his fix.

If not, just check back with Mardaneous; after some other change or quest update, or something, the proper speech option may get triggered. I defeated the vampire but did not go back to Aleroth until after the castle, when doing the council quests. During the conversation, I talked about George first and then recruited Mardaneous, and didn't have any problems. Some people have been able to finish the murder quest after he moves, so maybe the speech option will get triggered then.
