So, I beat Divinity 2 yesterday after 4 days of playing until the wee hours of the morning. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience even with some of the more serious errors I encountered. Now that I finished it I want to write my impression of the game itself.
Characters: Although the characters and factions are good, they seemed somewhat lacking. Certain aspects that could and should have been explored further were left completely alone. For example, the dragon slayers are supposed to be this elite team poised to strike down all who dare to be in league with dragons, naturally I should have been afraid of them right? I thought so, which is why I expected Rhode to be more tenacious and have to deal with her attempts to kill me throughout the entire game. That's what the tenets of the order dictate she should do. Yet, instead she chooses to completely ignore me until I'm right in front of her. Even then she stays her hand to appease the local guards and gets sent to jail! Then that's the last you see of her. Which is a shame because she was a truly interesting character. Then there's the Protagonists own internal conflict which seems largely ignored. The character was trained to hate and despise dragons, then ends up becoming one? I believe Damian himself pointed out how deliciously ironic that is. Yet, the protagonist is obviously not a complete zealot to this cause, because then you'd have the option to just kill yourself when you find out(Does that count as slaying a dragon? xD). At the same time though, they shouldn't accept their new role easily. They seemed too willing to do everything Talahna and Zandalor requested of them. Listening to Zandalor made sense to me but Talahna always kinda bugged me. She always said what she wanted to and never held a conversation.
The fact it was Ygerna, not Talahna, makes up for this though. Wouldn't want to blow our cover now would we?
Plot: This actually wasn't done bad. It was a basic "Here is your Big quest, do these little quests first though okay?" Setup. The world has many side missions to keep players distracted and entertained. Though, I will say after the battle tower it gets a little repetitive always decimating a flying fortress. The way Ygerna's soul must be revived makes sense and I didn't see any conflict within the universe. The only conflicts to the plot I see are caused by the ending and are as follows.
If the Divine is so powerful, why couldn't he telepathically tell anyone else about what I was doing so they could tell me? I blame the crystal personally...
In the Hall of Echos you faced the souls of those you killed and angered right? Then why wasn't the real Talahna there? I'm pretty sure she would be ticked at me for not doing what she really wanted me to do. Livid with rage, in fact.
This isn't so much of a conflict but a question....How the heck am I going to get out of that crystal thing & more importantly how is civilization going to survive? Is this character dead forever now? I ask because we've already imbued men with God and Dragon powers, what's left to imbue them with? Demon powers?
Gameplay was great, only time I got mad was when I had to face literal hordes of imps and goblins. The only major problem seemed to be some saving issues and the occasional freeze but, meh. Oh, and the music was BRILLIANT. Really added a lot to the game as a whole. Now, if you have any issues or comments about this post ,such as something you believe should be in spoilers, or anything else please tell me. I don't want to give anything away.
P.S. I couldn't find a Sticky for people to discuss their impressions on the game. Did I miss it or is it the entire forum
