Is there a confirmed memory leak in the game? With the exception of the infuratingly retarded graphical option changing errors, the game has ran pretty well for me. But once ive gotten to the fjord, the longer i play, the more 'laggy' things get. and my Framerate progressively lessens, to the point that its all but unplayable. Then i restart, and its fine again. normally its not too much of a problem, as the same thing happened in dragon age. and it only seemed to happen further into the games storyline. but it seems to be happening progressively faster. last time i played, i only played for like 10-15 minutes before my framerate started nosediving.

There is no known issue with memory leaks, though it is a possibility.

This sounds like it could be a heat problem. If a fan is starting to die, your CPU or video card could start overheating when stressed, and start slowing down, which could gradually get worse as the fan dies. Exiting the game or rebooting would drop the load and allow things to cool off (had this happen to me with a CPU fan years ago; at first the lockups seemed like a software problem, as it generally happened with lots of browser windows open, then gradually got worse).
Try taking the cover off, if you have a desktop computer, and see if the CPC/GPU fans seem to be going slow/intermittent or making any grinding noises (assuming they are not covered). Point a fan at the open computer (or at a laptop elevated a bit on a hard surface) and see if you get the same behaviour with the game.
There are also programs that can read and monitor temperature and fan speed info reported by the motherboard (I think that has become fairly common with remotely recent motherboards).

i dont think it could be that... or if it is ive got a nasty letter to write to ATI. Its a brand new Radeon 4670, with a built in fan that, though i havent openly been listening, hasnt sounded like its having any problems. and the case itself has a fan built into the side to help cool the inside. so i cant imagine its overheating. Ill check tho.

Have you run any benchmarks on the new card, or played any other graphics intensive games since starting D2:ED? If you still have Dragon Age installed, you could try it and see if it seems the same or worse than before. A hardware problem should show up in any CPU/GPU intensive application.
Come to think of it, that might have been an easier test to suggest than pulling the cover off... shame

Probably agree with Dragonien, but this game is full of bugs, so I cant be sure.

only games ive really been playing since i got it is L4D2, killing floor, Borderlands, and a short bit of NWN2. I play on semi high settings on all of them with no problem so...

tho granted, i did the open case check thing, and the card felt a bit hot. but didnt feel like OMG hot... just kinda warm so i dunno

Typically - "stock" fans are the bare minimum for what the card needs in order to perform properly. What brand of 4670 card is it?

Few issues which could cause this:

- Fan RPM [speed] not correct [too slow or not speeding up when the GPU gets hot] - you should be able to use a program to monitor the speed
- Fan not mounted correctly to the GPU - visual inspection - remove the video card and verify the fan is not loose.
- Thermal Grease between the fan and GPU incorrectly applied at the factory - Excessively thick applications of thermal grease will do more harm than good by interfering in the heat conduction between the cooler and CPU. The thermal grease layer should be thin and cover the whole surface you will only need about half of the amount in the tube included.

I had the same problem with Drangon Age: Origins and Divinity 2, in DA it occurs since the beginning of the game. But with Divinity 2 it only occurred in the end of the game.

I had the same problem with other games like Assassins Creed (in the end of the game) and Prototype (since the beginning of the game), i have poor system specs but i know its noot because of that, the only thing i can say is that the last two games that don't had that problem here are made with the Unreal3 Engine (Batmam and Borderlands).

I think it is a cammom problem.

And in Divinity 2 that slowdown, is not related to memory, here Divinity 2 never used more than 750MB, while in DA when i just start the game it alread uses 1,5GB os memory.

NOTE: I alread runs RivaTuner while gaming, it show 60~80șC on the GPU, in the Bios the CPU shows 45~50șC. No Fan issue here.

yea thats exactly where im having the problems. specifically the flying fortresses the most. Raze's i had to restart like every 10-15 minutes.

and im not sure what the NORMAL temp is, but i was fiddling with my card and stuff, and i even maxed the fan speed to see if that helped. and it was sitting between 40-60 Degrees Celcius

40~60șC is good value, no problem with it.

70șC is normal for hot places while 80șC is Fan/Colling problem, if more than 90șC the Nvidia chips burns hehe

When i said i had slowdown in the end of the game, i was meaning in "Orobas Fjords".
