The situation: (For those who care. If you don't, see "The point:". smile )
I've recently bought Divine Divinity on GoG.com and I really like the game. Except for the occasional crashes and bugged quests (which I believe are not there when played on an older system?) it's a really nice game. I've come to the point where I have gathered the council of seven and I am ready to start the ritual, but something goes wrong. I have a technical issue with the spell effect that is used when the character emerges after the cinematic. The game just freezes and shows an access violation error. I've tried a lot of things to avoid it, but none of it worked.

Things I've tried:
- All kinds of changes in config.div I found around the internet (including this forum)
- All kinds of resolutions, switching to 16 bit color mode, ...
- Running the game on Linux on Wine actually got me past the spell effect (which is how I know what comes after it), but there were horrible graphics problems and the game crashed when I tried to save. (this one really gave me hope :p)
- I ran the game in a virtual 32 bit version of Windows 7 (my original is 64 bit), but it was horribly slow and the result was the same -> crash.

The point:
Because of "The situation" and after "Things I've tried", this is the last thing I could think of: I want someone to download my savegame, hit the gong, talk to the orcs on the other side, save the game again and send me back the new save game.
I would love to be able to continue the wonderful story in the few free moments of my busy studying schedule. Therefore I would be very thankful if someone could do me this favour up.
thankyou

Winrar tells me the file is corrupted - can't extract. I'd help otherwise.

At least a couple other people with the download version of DD could load games saved in the CD/DVD version, but could not save the game after that. Even if the save rar wasn't corrupt it may not be any help.

However, there should be a patch for the downloadable versions soon. Lar posted a week ago in an RPGWatch forum that (among other things) "DivDiv remaster - the digital distribution versions have been updated to handle the issues that were reported."
Someone mentioned in another topic emailing GOG to complain and getting a replacement div.exe and configtool.exe emailed back, which fixed their problem (couldn't open certain chests).

It should be fixed now, I didn't switch to binary mode to upload the file. I really should install some ftp software so I don't have to upload with the command line. Thank you for trying to help.

Oh, a patch is nice if it stops the crashing. It's nice to see developers maintaining their old games. I might pick up div2 after completing Divine Divinity. Judging from the demo is looks very promising.

Sorry it crashed immediately after depositing me in the wastelands. I'm using the new version. I'd try it on the old version, but I can't get saves from one version to save under the other. sad

Ok, thanks for trying. I'll have to wait for the patch then.

I had exactly the same problem like you did, Schildpad... Seems like the answer for this bug was to reinstall the game and not crack div.exe... So I fixed your savegame too. You can get it from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=024IEEO1 or from your e-mail (I sent it there too just in case). If you wish to continue like this be warned that there is no turning back to your side quests...

Oh, one more thing ... if you want to see the end-game cinematic I suppose you should do as Raze said and as I did, i.e. reinstalling and not cracking the exe file.

Best of luck smile

P.S. Are you going to finish the game using a dagger as a weapon ? grin

That is absolutely great, thank you very much. I thought it was lost since I changed versions quite a few times and fucked up the files a bit doing that I think. How did you fix it?
I really did a lot of reinstalling and only tried using crack exe's once I couldn't think of anything else.

I guess I am, I never used any other weapon. I found one with mana steal on it, which helped me a lot. My character is not the strongest one ever, but I have a few scorpion traps to get me past the nasty parts.

Told you how I fixed it... Reinstalled the game, patched it to the latest version and didn't crack div.exe. So the game works from now on only with the CD 2 from the game in the CD-ROM. Pain in the ass but worth it...

I finished the game, but the end cinematic didn't impress me much, I was expecting something grandious.

Happy gaming wave

About the ending...

*sigh*
I would have never thought that the language of pure image is so hard to understand. We have to think about that in the future...

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

Ascension "Blessing" cutscene
After you got sacrificed by the council of seven your spirit awakes in a divine realms on an altar. Around you the ideas of the seven gods are manifesting. You can roughly separate impish, human, elven or orcish gods...
Everyone of them grabs into their chest and puts a small part of the heart into your weightless shape. After you received all blessing the div in you is fully developed and so her wings grow and she flies up to the mortal plane where she descends as the reborn hero into the wastelands.

Extro scene
You see the demon of lies dying. In fact you see the mutiliated body of janus ripped into pieces and the leftover, the sword of lies, remains. It comes closer and tries to seduce the hero. The hero is tempted to take it but refuses and sends it back to hell away from the mortal plane.
Then the hero hears the cries of the baby. Knowing that it is the lord of chaos inside the child he/she draws the dagger to kill it. In the hero's moral struggle to kill a neborn innocent child the scene fades out.
Much later you see the hero walk out victorious into the swamp area. He carries something. Loot? The child? You don't know for sure...
Somewhere on a distant hill Arhu and Zandalor watch you coming when suddenly the statue you lifted up in the sky while entering the katacombs of aleroth comes down finally...(side joke, nothing more)
