I have been playing the game for some time and have reached sentinal island,it was working ok, and then crashed, now on start up it goes as far as the title pages and then reports an error and will not let me go any further. I want to uninstall and then reinstall, but i cannot find were the program has stored "the saves" so i can copy that before uninstalling. anyone help please.

In XP the saves are in the folder
C:\Documents and Settings\ %username% \Local Settings\Application Data\Divinity 2\Savegames
or in Vista / Win 7
C:\Users\ %username% \AppData\Local\Divinity 2\Savegames
You may need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders.

Raze Many thanks for your prompt reply, but i am being a bit slow here, I am on XP, and rightly so i have followed the path you suggest, but the "data/divinity" is not showing.
I have gone into "properties" and made sure that everything should be showing with nothing hidden, and here is the thick bit, if it needs me to alter something else i do not know how to do it.

It should be there. Are you sure you choose to show all hidden files and folders in your folder viewing settings? That should the location where the save file located.
If you still not able to find it, then use your search function in windows to locate the folder with name Savegames or Divinity 2

I am not sure if i have done this correctly, within the files i have gone into properties and made sure that there is no ticks in the hidden box's is that the way to do it. Having never done this before i am not sure.

Are you referring to right click on the folder then select properties?
That not the way. Check on the upper menu of the window screen, you see files, edit, view, favourites, tools and help. Click on tools, select folder option. Click on view tab, look for option "show hidden files and folders" and checked on it. Usually "do not show hidden files and folders" will be selected if never do any change there before.
The follow the directory path I put earlier and you should be able to find it.

Many many thanks, i have found it via the search option, i had tried this before but i was not using the correct wording. This prompts me to ask another question,I have now saved this to a memory stick, because i cannot find the file within the system, should the game create this file again when i reinstall, and if it does not can i just create my own??

It will create the d2 folder, but without your old save files if you remove them together while uninstalled. Since you had the folder with you, after your reinstall, you can just paste it back to the correct location and have all your old saves back. Best to copy the entire divinity 2 folder than just the save folder. You can keep your old config like that, instead of reconfigure again.
