I was having the CTD at the end of the third loading screen (credit screen). Happened regularly on the demo and DVD full game version. Tried all of the first aid suggestions, updated drivers, removed AV software, defragged my computer, etc... My system exceeds all of the minimum and most recommended requirements for this game.

Last night we dropped the resolution on my monitor and the game loaded for the first time. It then crashed during 'create new game' but at that point we were able to get into the main menu and lower the various video settings. Game runs now. Not sure if this will work for anyone else but just in case...

Thanks for the post and report of your experience smile

I can get to the Options menu where you can pick "Start New Game" and such...

I've tried changing the resolution from the options menu from my native 1680x1050 to 1024x768 and even 800x600

Crashed every time.

One thing though...It didn't seem to change the look of that main menu screen...when I changed the setting. I just assumed that it would adjust when the Start New Game loaded.

I have a 22" lcd btw that I run at the 1680x1050 on the desktop...did you change your actual monitor rez or just adjust from the game menu?

And what rez did you change it to that worked?

Thank for the info smile

Regards

Rolend: try changing your desktop resolution in Windows itself to something "safe" (i.e. small) and then run the game. Then in the options menu, turn on the "don't use desktop resolution" and override it with something "safe" again. Then the game should run for you, and you can start experimenting with the resolutions. I would go for 1024x768 or maybe even 800x600.

A friend of mine worked with me to reset the monitor resolution and neither of us remember what we set it to. Once in the options menu, we lowered all of the video settings- the overall resolution plus settings for vegetation, etc... We lowered most of them to their lowest setting, and I'm going to go back and see how far I can bump them up before it crashes.
