I am having some trouble getting inside the battle tower. Each entrance I've found is guarded by a group of skeletons. Even when I try to kite them away one at a time, I always accidentally attract one or two unwanted enemies that usually kill me due to me being focused on the one I'm already of attacking. (I'm a melee oriented class that uses archery to kill far off foes if rushing in, blades swinging will no doubt result in death)

When it comes to skills my class is more of a maximum profit class. I maxed out my Lockpicking firt thing so that no single coin is safe from my hungry wallet. I have recently started in reducing the experience price needed for Mindreading. The only "combat" skill I have is a level 1 Whirlwind.

I think if I am an unstoppable leveled juggernaut I should have no problem smashing apart those skeletons.

TL;DR Version
Anyone know a good levelling guide?

Traipse around the valley, killing goblins, exploring tunnels and doing quests. Come back when you are a level or two above the skeletons.

Thanks. But I also have one more question. What was with the random "Seeker Hating Troll" on the road from where I met Talana to the Battle Tower? Is it supposed to be the video game version of a "You must be this tall to continue" sign?

Depending on how you do the quest with the drunken Seekers in the Black Boar inn, they can get sent on a punitive mission to kill a troll.

At level 7 I was able to use a bow to take out the level 8 skeletons at the main (locked) gate of the tower (switching to melee when they got close), with several strategic retreats to heal behind the large tree down hill. As long as you get one or two of them each attack, the next approach will be easier. After that I continued south east to clear the level 6/7 goblins, and the first couple level 9 bandits.
The bandits were too tough in large groups, so I went west of the place you meet the dragon knight, and up the northern path through the mountains (and level 6/7 goblins). Farther west I cleared partly towards the passage to Maxos temple (at level 8 or 9 I could take out the level 11 black ring members one or two at a time), then decided to leave that area and clear out the derelict tunnel (the two goblin entrances already cleared above ground). After that I finished off the skeletons around Lovis's tower. I kept exploring, though, and did a fair bit before actually entering the tower.

From the main gate, up the hill and across the bridge, you can edge around the left side and jump over to get access to part of the tower. Keep an eye out for levers to open the gates. There are a couple ledges you can jump up onto, as well.
Near the base of the tower there are some platforms with ladders you can use to get up and inside.
