I would like to have a go at defeating Laiken witout summoning Razakel, because I do not want to lose the Broken Valley quests. Would defeating Laiken without Sanssan's help prevent Broken Valley from beign destroyed? How do I get to Laiken without Sassan raising Razakel?

Do you have a save before entering the summoning chamber? There is an auto-save just before that room, if you didn't keep going and hit another auto-save point. If you reload you would be able to return to Broken Valley to complete quests or tend to any other unfinished business.

However, once you enter the chamber I don't recall anyone reporting a way to bypass the summoning. Even if you could, there is a cutscene that gets triggered after Laiken dies, which may be the actual point the game poisons the Broken Valley / Sentinel Island areas, or it may not get triggered if you do manage to bypass the summoning.

Thank you for replying!
I do have an autosave before entering the summoning chamber, but the door won't open unless I have the Soul Forge document and Sassan is there to meet me. Once Sassan is involved, I don't have any option but to let her summon Razakel. Then it's all over for Broken Valley. Is there no way to avoid that?

Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to avoid that.

I know you get a warning when you have the contract that you will not be able to return to Broken Valley, but thought you could get up to just before the summoning room. I guess going up to the third floor and telling Sassan the demon's name is the point of no return, then...

I just tried this section of the game again (from an earlier save and from the auto-save created as you get near the door), and as long as I did not enter the summoning chamber far enough to trigger the cutscene conversation with the undead Sassan, I could leave, take the elevator down to the morgue shrine and teleport back to Broken Valley. If you enter far enough to trigger the conversation (3 or 4 steps past the door) the door will be closed and locked, with no way back.

Did you go up to the third floor? Killing a creature in that hallway gives you the key.
