A veteran gamer here. Here's my issue.

First let me state honestly that I cheat. I have unlimited gold in almost any game that I can get away with it. Muling for gold is simply not fun for me. But I never cheat with stats or gear or anything else. I just dont like to mule.

So I have tons of potions, the best gear that I can buy. I love side quests and ALWAYS pick the exp reward as an option. No need for gold or gear, unless its spectacular.

I'm not complaining about normal game play. It's fine, I can pick out and kill almost any mobs a level or even 2 above me. no problem, I have LOTS of potions. It's the big fights. Every main plot event I am lower level than the mobs. I admit, that I can manage to load a previous save game and search and find some mobs to kill to get enough experience to make the big fights easier. But even so, its a quick load quick load quick load experience.

Especially with groups. I'm so frustrated. Im at the point where Im with the wizard in aeroth trying to seal the rifts. I had the two annoying battles upstairs and now have the big one on the main floor. I have reset skills a number of times with the trainer trying to find the secret formula to survive this. The best I've gotten so far is to summon creature with a summon demon and combo fireball, firewall, and magic blast. I tried an all melee approach, I've tried ranged. I've tried half and halfing it.

I also state that I did NOT min/max my stats. I spread them out as I wanted too, and if that doesnt make me overpowered, it should NOT make continuing the storyline impossible.

I don't get it. I don't get how I can breeze through the game so easily, then get to plot events and get stuck because I'm slaughtered.

This is a fun game(most of the time). Great storyline, but gods it is frustrating. Do I have to reroll and min/max to have a chance?

What is your preference for playing? range, magic, or melee? Every strategy is different depending on what you have or what your build is. For example, I have a powerful ranger that I use splitting arrow, poison arrow and explosive shot most of the time while jumping around the room and rolling behind obstacles. Granted my dmg was overpowered at this point and I could have just stood there and kill each mob with 1 Explosive shot but that wouldn't be fun at all.

Could U give an outline of your stats and skills? Perhaps that would help to narrow a strategy that would work for you.

Regardless of your class, you should notice there are places for you to lead them in smaller numbers (both on the back right and left side) and kill them off one at a time if all else fails. Just remember you do have that mage who will heal Zandala if he gets really low on health. Always be on the move! Remember to pull enemies of them once in awhile. I would try casting your 2 pets near the wizards so they offer some defense before reaching the mages. If the crowd gets overwhelming, try using a CC skill like fear, mind control, or stun arrow.

I posted in a thread yesterday about a method that has worked ok for me, but I am starting to seriously rethink everything. I came across a huge group of bandits in the pass before Maxos tower ( I assume, haven't reached it yet) and picking them off one by one, usually by charming one, and ducking back to watch. Anyway, I spent almost three hours at that pass. I can dispose of the smaller group up front, but as soon as I go through the pass to target another, 3 or more lock on to me and I'm screwed. I can out run them to the point they won't chase me, but I go back in and start over. They are lvl 11, and I'm a 10, warrior with some magic missile and spirit.

Another area is down the river from here. I gave up on those guys, in hopes of finding some more goblins for some XP. I started over towards the bandit camp (on my map). I got to a little bridge, that swings east towards the camp and saw some more bandits before I crossed. Killed 5 of them no problem, but there was this bandit Sargent that kicked my ass. Multiple times. Bull rush, sledge hammer, some spell he spams from a distance that doesn't let me get in close, etc. So I jumped in the water so swim down stream to come up behind him.

Low and behold is another of those small temple ruins where the mage pops up, says some kooky isht and a monster pops up. This time a Lvl 9 demon of some sort. So I charm him, pop my ghost, and go get the sargent. I lure him back down and he lays waste to all of us. About 5 times. ONE FRICKIN GUY, ONE LEVEL ABOVE ME!!!!

Now here is the deal. I am not OCD, so I won't spend hours upon hours searching every square inch of terrain for mobs to kill for XP farming. I generally take what comes in natural progression. I TRY to talk to all of the NPC's and get their quests and complete them. If I come across a secret dungeon or cave, I'm in there. But I try to follow the main quest line when I play games, especially the first time around. This game, I'm pretty damn sure I have covered 95% of what is behind me. I haven't mind read but a few times, so I'm not way behind level wise, if at all. I have played games of this genre 100's of times, so I pretty much know how to build a toon. Maybe not the best build, first time out, but my god, it AIN"T FRICKIN ROCKET SCIENCE!

My point is this...I don't mind dying a few times from being stupid or ambushed or just not in the right mindset at the time. I LIKE a CHALLENGE. I normally PREACH TACTICS on forums to get guys to rethink a little when they complain about being stuck somewhere. But when a game is this unforgiving, this difficult, this...rediculously scaled in terms of character to opponent, especially damge wise, then it just takes much of the fun out of it. period.

I am at the point to where I have basically three options:
- Start over and seriously rethink my character, based on what I now know, thought I doubt much would change.
- Move difficulty down to easy...AIN'T a frickin option for me.
- Quit and put it on the shelf; I like too much about the game to do this.
- Ok a fourth option; go back and search under every stone for th 5% of mobs I missed, see if I can lvl a time or two more and come back, which leads me to my final point:

There is no way that a experienced player that has played so many of these types of games, playing the game on normal, SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PROGRESS THROUGHT THE MAIN STORY LINE, while completing an ample number of side quests to level up, AND HAVE THIS INSANE LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY MOVING THROUGH THE GAME. it never happened in the first Divinity, never in any Diablo, Sacred, Fallout, DA, ME...well, you get the point. It's just become PLAIN RIDICULOUS!!!

The MOBS need to be SCALED better, where 1 or 2 doesn't simply ruin your day!

You can gain stat and skill points by mindreading, in addition to the odd quest or alternate quest solution. I've mindread relatively liberally, and it hasn't hurt my level any.

I also ran into trouble with the level 9 bandits the first time I encountered them (after clearing out the goblins to the east and west of where you meet the dragon knight), but just went in a different direction. That is when I headed to the derelict tunnels (entrances in each of the goblin areas I had just cleared) and went up a couple levels IIRC. I've never had to search very hard for someplace to go that suited my level.

I hear ya Raze, but I have already cleared the tunnels, collected the talismans, reward, etc. Actually did that before I went to Lovis tower. And you say Level 9, I'm 99% positive they are higher than me and I'm a 10 currently. Maybe I'm confusing them with the group I ran into with the sargent, but regardless, multiple mobs in Div 1 was nothing compared to this game...not even close.
Like the troll cave in the first game for example, it was tough, and took a few tries, but normal progression of the game took you there, and it was relatively beatable no matter which build type I took in there.

Are you playing as a warrior?

For warrior types especially the games is very hard until around level 20. Before that, it's not a good idea to try to melee mobs.

But as soon as one has invested some in skills like Life leech & regenerate, not to mention Bleed, things suddenly become much easier.

For rangers & mages it is much much easier with skills like Fireball & Magic missile.
