How do you open the chest on the rock in the middle of the river on the way to River Gorge....there's one in the Imp cave that won't open either.....I've looked for a key for these and a few others that won't "lockpick" and can't find them.
The river one is a pain....I flew and walked all over the area..no key....help please...thanks

I don't recall a locked chest in the imp's lair, and the walkthrough only mentions a key for a door. The chest on the rock in the river was a pain (I eventually gave up and checked the walkthrough); you can not get the key for that unless you picked Kenneth as your trainer.

Poooh...I'm one of those who love to open everything...and of course, at the good ones, reload till I get a killer, or very expensive item..
It might not have been the Imps cave..It was the one where an Imp talked to me when I first entered, then attacked me after I fought some Boss who ran away and flew around the Valley before I toasted him...
I made a note and referred to it as the Imp cave, possibly, incorrectly...thanks..

I find that alot of times when you spend a bunch of time trying to open the chests; it ends up not being worth it anyway.

That was the red hammer goblin tribe cave. There are 2 locked chests there (and a couple either open or that you can lockpick IIRC); after you complete the quest for the goblin storyteller (find someone who can write both the goblin and common Rivelonian languages), you can find the keys on a bench in his room.

Oh my friend...on this one I must disagree....over the years...reloading the chests have gotten me some of the best items a game has to offer....I admit, I may go a bit overboard...but what the hey....it's a little like gambling, without the down side....hee hee...

I spent too much time reloading to get something good out of certain chests (ie if I had to mindread to find it, or if it was difficult to get to, etc). Several times I ended up getting something better in a random drop a little while later anyway. I mostly stopped doing this after getting the battle tower, especially since you tend to get better loot if the game has not been loaded in awhile.
The human that thinks he is a goblin is just past the entrance in High Hall. Tell him to go to the goblin cave, and when you get there the storyteller will open the door. The cave itself is across the water south of the entrance to Keara's flying fortress, near the Red Hammer teleporter shrine.

Hey Hey..good info..
What do you mean..."if the game has not been loaded in awhile." Do you mean, to not play it for a day or two....as in play something else for a bit....
Does the game have some type of internal clock? I've got Fallout and Dragon Age loaded and can go back and play them for awhile.
I've been reloading chests etc, since the old Might and Magic games got under my skin..it's a hard habit to break...like I said, kinda like rollin the dice, without having to pay when you crap out....
thanks again..

I meant the game appears to keep track of how long you have been playing since you loaded the last time. If you load the game, play for an hour (or whatever) and save in front of a chest before opening it, you will tend to get better loot that instance than if you reload again and try the chest right away. Of course you can get crappy loot the first time and reload to get something better, but several times I got something pretty good, didn't save, and tried reloading to see what else I could get, only to need to reload a fair bit to get something of equal value to what I originally passed up. After that I started saving if I got something valuable (even if not useful for my build) if I wanted to reload a couple times, in case I didn't get anything I could use (or anything of greater value). Fairly often that was the loot I ended up going with, especially if I was only willing to try a few times.
Playing again I would still reload at the start of the game, until I had decent equipment, but for all the time it takes, you would probably do almost as good just playing (except for certain chests, boss fights, malachite veins, or if you start having problems, etc).
Loading the game and leaving it sit at the load confirmation prompt also appears to count as playing time, as I noticed reloading a few times while doing something else.

Interesting, but I play always without a reload for better loot I take what comes to me and that's it ... The only time I sometimes reload is if I want to choose another dialog-option or quest-option. For me not fun to reload for loot (many times over again).

I didn't tap the Malacite veins in the Waterfall cave when I was there. Went back yesterday and managed to get three Gems from one of them. I read where you can get 4 gems from the veins..I'll try your tip and see if I can get 4 of 'em from the other one...thanks
The thoughts expressed re levels and so forth are interesting....I've noticed that even though I'm only level 27, because of reloading, I've got killer weapons/armor/charms etc....and killing creatures, higher levels than myself, is pretty easy...
Maybe I should rethink....just a bit...the reloading..(after getting the 4 gems, that is)...thanks everybody..your thoughts and suggestions are always welcome..
Duh..by the way, how do I open the chest by the Gem Veins. Can't find a key. thanks

I tried to get 4 with the first malachite vein in the depleted ore mine, but gave up and settled for 2 (didn't notice I re-loaded the wrong save until after I had deleted the one with 3 gems). The last malachite vein I tried, the semi-hidden one in the Primordial cave, I did get 4 out of, but if I had gotten 3 first I would have taken them.
I don't recall a chest by the veins, but the walkthrough states "There's a key hidden on a shelf straight south of the locked chest it opens."

Found the key..didn't look far enough back.
Re gems....finally rolled a 3 on both of them....will take your thought and quit with 6....rolling 8 of them would probably take all night...thanks..
