Whats everyone's thoughts on which is the best? I was thinking of taking sword and board but not sure as the low level shields barely do anything for defense...and as far as I know there's no actual blocking in the game. Been switching between sword/shield and a 2hd sword and I think so far the 2hd sword is a better setup.

What's your opinion? Anybody have good success with sword and shield?

I dont think sword and shield will be good togheter since shields in D2 are a kind useless and slow down your attacks with sword when equipped, in high level dual weild its probably better than 2hands because of skill dual weilding expertise(it will increase attack with main hand and decrease penalty of attack in off hand) so more high its skill more damage will do...

I prefer a two-handed sword! A shield (a good one whit bonus - charm (slots) or enchantment(slots) can be a good thing to have, but I like the higher damage I can do whit a two-handed sword (most of the time) ...
Dual Wielding is also nice, I sometimes go for this too smile

But I like it to "see" my hero walking/battle with a sword and shield, nice to see!

Doesn't appear sword and board is a worthwhile option frown

Anybody think otherwise?

for a moment i was having an idea of using a good shield in a pure spammable mage but i remember that using good shields require high str so its worthless :S

I'm making my own class. I'm just making a strenght warrior and then boost sword/shield attack skills. My defense is not bad and I summon a phantom who heal me. Like that I don't have to boost my life; I keep my points for strenght. And some skills points for health drain ^^

It's always depend on what king of character you are.. for me now, I prefer sword/shield combo but dual wield is not even bad.

How do you dual wield?

Equip a weapon in your off-hand to dual wield (you can mix and match any one handed weapons), and put skill points into the dual wielding skill to reduce the off-hand damage penalty (eventually your off-hand will become stronger than your main hand, at level 10).
On the Xbox the off-hand is listed right under the main hand in the equipment list; for the PC I would guess the off-hand equipment slot was either opposite or below the main hand (equip a two handed sword and I would think you should be able to see which other slot is disabled).
