so it took me a while to figure out how to kill him. but now that he's dead, i can't get out of the room - the door is locked. what did i do wrong?

The doors should not have been closed again. There is a possible bug a few people have encountered in the PC version; sometimes when quick saving/loading indoors ladders can get removed or doorways sealed. If you notice this right away, then exiting the game, restarting and reloading the save should work normally, but if you don't notice and save again it gets written into the save file.

Missing ladders in dungeon...stuck inside!

Do you have a recent save outside the room, or inside with the door open?

I figured it out. you have to go stand in front of the blood pool and take the item there. then the door opens up... i never want to have to try to kill amdusias again. it was way harder than it should have been, and that's AFTER i set the difficutly to LOW... thanks tho!!

Oops... I never noticed the doors closed until you took the book (I Rush Attacked him, so was close to the blood alter, and my focus stayed there until I was done looting.)
At level 15 Amdusias is not very difficult, especially if you get in close and switch him away from using a bow and the exploding arrow skill.

BTW, you may be long past this point by now, but your first encounter on sentinel island you can mindread to go up a level, so the higher level you are (I made it to level 18 in the fjords) the more of an experience bonus that will be. You don't need to get to a high level, but it would be better if you got to a new level before entering, to get a full level bonus.
