Hello,

When I started the game I had initially planned on making my character a Sword and Shield wielding mage. It started out fine from the beginning as there was a decent starter 1 Handed Sword with magical damage at the vendor in the first town.

However as I have progressed through the game(Level 15 now) I can only find good Two handed swords with good magical damage on them. I have been waiting forever to find a nice 1 Handed Sword with high magical damage so I can switch back to my intended play style, however it seems there are practically no higher level 1 Handed Swords with magical damage stat on them.

Are there any good 1 Handed Swords with high magical damage in the game and if so were can I get them?

Pretty much all equipment is random with random modifiers. Check stores each time you level up, that's when they get new equipment.

Playing a strength based warrior, I was offered all kinds of balanced and magic and based weapons. In any case, I used swords at the start of the game, then switched to axes, as they had better damage. After getting the battle tower I switched to hammers (started using Barnabus' hammer right away, then a little while later found another hammer that was better than my axe), and towards the end of the game was back to a sword/axe combo.

If you have not visited a merchant since you last leveled, you can save before running your crosshairs over them, then trade, and reload if you don't get offered something useful. This can also be handy fighting boss type opponents that always have something decent, if you save just before finishing them off.
Unless you really need to upgrade something, though, I would limit the number of reloads. You don't want to waste a bunch of time trying to get the best possible loot, and then just end up finding something better a couple levels later anyway.

Swordmage

1H sword + shield is not worth the effort in D2. Really, AC bonus is so low compare to damage bonus with 2h weapon/dual wielding so it's even not funny. I suggest you to drop all points (skillmaster can help with that for 5k coins) and re-made your character.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

To the quoted post above, I pretty much figured this out yesterday after finally finding a decent Magical 1H sword yesterday. It was only maybe half the damage as the 2H is. I tried for a bit with that combo and it really just wasn't as potent as my nice High Magic dmg 2H sword.

Once I finally unlocked the battle tower I did a respec. and just stuck with my 2H.
