Hey guys... I was teleported into a black void area.. in what appears to be the same map area as the council area...but I'm like, northwest... and I can't see anything or do anything. It's as if I'm dead or something... I can't save the game either.. all I can do is load a game.
They all huddle around me... then they cast their crap and send me away, then that little sh*t comes and kills all the council members... and then it focuses on what should be me - a black area with nothing there.
Has anyone else had this? Am I missing a patch? I did apply one patch since I installed the game. I can't do anything now... well, I can go back and finish some quests in my questbook, but I really don't wanna.. I just wanna push ahead.

Yes, I have a save right before I hit the "gong". And I think I have another before that, too.
Why is it doing this to me? I've tried to go through the portal many times.
I'm using a no-cd patch so I don't have to have my stinkin CD in all the time... could it be trying to play a movie off my CD that it can't find?

I wonder whether Barnabus could help ?
I think you should ask him via PM.
He has some sort of experience with that.

you can't save after the gong.. so of course all of my saves are before that... and it happens no matter how many times I reload a game and try. I have already tried the obvious.. otherwise I wouldn't be on here.

Actually many people had the same problem. I recall that I must have had it at least 5 times! I forgot, too bad, how I finally fixed it. Let me think for a few minutes before I awnser again.
Maybe, nah...

No, he did it on purpose. Thus he came into uncharted areas. As an result, he knows much more of the whiole game than we do - he has simply seen more.
He posts in some topics, otherwise you could find him in the Userlist of this Board.

could it be trying to play a movie off my CD that it can't find? That is it; try the blessing ritual again with the CD in the drive.

Yes, if you use a no-CD hack, though these can cause problems.

I was able to play it without the cd. Seems it only needs it for starting, and area transitions (rivertown to verdistis for example). Normally i'd through my own music cd in, but Divinity's music is just too damn good to go unheard.
edit: there is a cinematic that plays after you "die" in the ritual.. that may be the problem.

this issue has been answered in the technical problem/issues. it is confirmed that the no-cd hack causes the problem as after the council 'kills' the character, a CG movie will play straight from the cd & once that's done, the character will be in a new area.
i know it. i used a no-cd hack (hate the sound of cd spinning like crazy in the drive once every 10 min or so) & the problem happened. had 2 re-install the game & re-patched with v1.33 & then play with cd to get past the problem.
after that, it's up to u if u still want to try your no-cd hack. i'm not using it anymore. the thought of restarting scares the hell out of me.
whatever it is, thank larian 4 the great support. saved me a lot of times.
