Without spoiling much, a certain tree on an island asked me to kill a certain goblin whose name begins with "Ch" and ends with "arlie".

Out comes Charlie. Since he's 23 and I am 20, and I don't have my creature out, discretion is the better part of valor. I vault backwards, and, of course, fall off the island into the water. Ka-splash.

Now I have a depressing perspective of swimming back to dry land. Heyy, let's try this dragon morph stone doohickey, shall we? Much to my surprise, I managed to flip into dragon form from water. YES! Fear my wrath! I fly back to the island, and what do you know? Charlie is still on the ground and visible. Score! Can you say goblin kabobs?

Well, not so much. My mighty fire breath, which devastated scores of flying fiends and towers mere minutes earlier, did a wholly unimpressive 4 HP damage per tick. My fireball and dragon burst did a little better, each hitting for about 60 HP a pop.

I probably could've killed him from the air, but I couldn't take it anymore, flipped back to human form and let my sword and spells do the talkin'. But the fact remains: I was able to successfully attack a regular mob as a dragon. Pity Charlie was wearing his fireproof cologne that day...

You could do that because he is part of the quest, try attacking normal enemy and you'll see what type of fireproof cologne he is wearing

I thought normal enemies just disappeared when you flipped into a dragon form.

The game was originally designed to allow the dragon form to attack ground opponents, but it required too much memory and had too much of a frame rate hit; see Lar's post in the topic Design ideas for Divinity 3 (mostly for Larian).
