Just finished the blessing ceremony and directly after all the cut scenes, I end up dead, just north-west of the room that the blessing was carried out in. This is not really a room at all, but I'll let the screenshot describe that.

The game considers me dead. I have health but I cannot save/change skills/use potions, etc. I can do nothing but lie there. I have tried healing to full before carrying out the ceremony, which leaves me with the little life you seen in the screenshot, but ultimately I'm still dead.

Anyone run into this problem? I'm loving the game so far, and I'd really like to progress further!

I'm running on Windows 7 32-bit at 1680x1050. I won't bother providing other specs as I strongly doubt they're of use. The game is patched to latest and without any third-party tools.

Reload your last save and hit the gong again with the play CD/DVD in an optical drive. Neither the no-CD hack or the configuration file edit can handle the cutscene video played at that point. With the latest game version, the edit to skip the intro videos also eliminates the need for the Play CD, except for the same two places as the no-CD hack (you will also need it for the final boss fight, to get the end game video).

Most re-release disk versions of the game should already be updated to the latest 1.0034A version, as shown in the bottom right corner of the main menu, so would not need to be patched. The DVD version is already updated, and the patch (designed for the CD version) should not be installed.

If you have the download version, or a disk version but are not using a no-CD hack or the setting to skip the intro videos, then check the number of files in the saved game folder. After going to the Dark Forest and Verdistis there should be 32 files in the folder. Very rarely files associated with the wastelands can get placed in the save folder early, which causes a problem when the files should get added (though the character should up dead in the wastelands, in that case, with the final resurrection not getting triggered).
If this is the problem, you can move or delete the 5 extra files (with .4 or .x4 extensions), then reload the save and hit the gong again to proceed normally.

Each save is a separate subfolder in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\savegames' folder.
Under Vista/7, depending on how the user accounts are set up, if you install the game to the default Program Files path, Windows can create separate savegame folders for each user, and then map that folder to the game's savegame folder (so it will just see the saves for the relevant user).
C:\Users\ %account name% \AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Divine Divinity\Run\savegames

Wow, thanks for the incredibly detailed response, Raze! I don't have the time today, but I'll look through this tomorrow and post back what worked.

Edit: Gave it a go anyway. Inserting the play disc worked! Thanks!

The only reason you would want to delete .4/.x4 files would be for the (very) rare bug mentioned above where they could be added to the save folder before the blessing ceremony (which would result in your character not being resurrected upon getting to the wastelands).

If the map shows your character in a black area just outside the council hall, then it is stuck looking for the Play CD/DVD to play a cutscene video. If you have the disk version, insert the play disk; if you have the download version and installed an unofficial language patch meant for the disk version, you'll need to create a play disk (see Divine Divinity asking for play-disc #3) or transfer the save to an unmodified install of the game long enough to get to the wastelands.
