I am in the battle tower, and just turned into a dragon for the first time. I fly around and am dead in about 15 seconds! I have tried this about 20 times and never survive long. I can only kill about 4 ballista towers and maybe one nest tower then it's over. What the heck do I have to do here?

1. Don't hover in one place. Always be moving. Ballistae shoot in a straight line, and the spear travels slowly, so dodge it.

2. Immediately after the dragon battle starts, open up your inventory, use any dragon skill books you have, and put on your armor (you should have a complete Dragonbone set by then). Assign all dragon skill points you have to Fire Sphere.

3. Dragon Armor will give you more HP and some bonus skills. Map your new skills to your quick bar right away.

4. Also, put a healing potion on your quickbar. Yes, you can use healing potions still. You don't need mana potions because the dragon regenerates mana super-quickly.

5. Fire Sphere is an iWin button. It's a homing missile. As soon as you lock on to something, shoot it and dodge. Any return fire will miss, and your fire sphere will chase the target and hit.

6. Kill the nests right away. As soon as you lock on to the nest tower (blue circle), fire the Fire Sphere, then dodge, and come around for another pass.

7. Your fire breath is a default attack, you fire it with left mouse button. It burns down towers pretty quick if you get close and then circle-strafe around the tower. But you have to be pretty much point-blank. Ballistae have some trouble shooting point-blank.

8. If the lock-on circle is blue, it means that you can hit it with Fire Sphere. If it is red, you can hit it with Fire Breath and Dragon Burst.

9. Dragon Spirit is your heal. It has a long and asinine cooldown. Use it if you have no potions or want to save potions for later.

10. Dragon Shield is not AWESOME, but it will help if you are taking it from all sides.

Above all, DO NOT HOVER. You are a speedy beast, so don't stay in one place, strafe a lot, watch for the ballistae spears and dodge them.

Thanks! That helped a lot! I only had two pieces of dragon armor...tail piece and helmet. I haven't done ANY of the Fjords yet...not sure how I got this far without touching that area! I kept going behind the tower and waited for my health to come back, that worked also!

There is no need to do any of the fjords before getting the battle tower, though you can level there a bit (which makes the first dragon battle easier) and pick up an extra dragon skill point (I put one in Dragon Spirit and one in Fire Sphere). There is a barrier blocking off most of the fjords, that you need to be able to transform into dragon in order to disable.

There are a couple pieces of dragon armour in your battle tower chest.

For the first battle in dragonform you can also fly down, under the flying rocks and take a rest! I do it last time and that was more handy/faster than always flying behind the Battle Tower ....

I didn't die much as a dragon, but I did get careless a couple times. Once I hit target lock on a dragon general, or whatever they are called, to automatically follow him while waiting for the Fire Sphere cooldown or to get in range to use Fire Breath, since he kept running away and healing himself. Target Lock made it easier keep track of him, and do damage faster than he could heal, but the first time I tried this I wasn't paying enough attention, and followed him into an anti-dragon shield...

I play the pc version and it works well...
maybe turn off/set to a lower setting shadows and antialising, your graphics card should work better with a higher resolution. If this does not fix the problem try setting the 'dynamic geometry distance rendering' to a lower setting.
I have never died once, yet i go from island to island, take out the ground force then change to dragon and take out ballista, wizard tower what eva. When all their offensive structures are done with i fly around at will taking out their dragons.
Oh and in the first dragon fight you just need to take out the nests and the fight is over.
