Are you able to turn in Goblin Hearts anywhere if Richard is dead? Or is he the only person you can sell them to?

Richard is the only one who you can turn goblin hearts in to. IIRC he mentions a buyer in Aleroth, but AFAIK you do not meet that person there (I turned in all the hearts I found long before getting the battle tower, though).

The hearts are random drops. You can get as many as there are goblins that can drop them. The ones I know of are:
-All "Tribal" goblin variations (Lv1 to 4) in the first part of Broken Valley. This includes the ones in the short dungeon next to the Chapel Shrine.
-All normal "Black" goblin variations in the valley proper (Lv7 to 8, I think). There are also heart-dropping black goblins in the Derelict Tunnel.

The heroic black goblins that appear in an ambush in the northwest part of the valley (near Dreavan's compound) don't seem to drop hearts. Tribal goblins have a decent heart drop rate, black goblins have a pretty low drop rate.

Trial goblins (in Farglow), Bellegar Trial Goblins, and goblins outside of Broken Valley don't seem to ever drop hearts. If you saved before killing each goblin and reloaded until you got a heart, I estimate you could probably amass around 130-150 hearts total. I know there are 70 goblins in the first part of the valley, and 10 or 12 more in that dungeon next to the Chapel Shrine.

At the beginning of Broken Valley I reloaded to get a heart out of every group of 2 or 3 goblins. This not being terribly exciting (or necessary), a little deeper into their territory when goblins started hanging around in groups of 4 or 5, one heart per group was still good enough. I don't recall how many I got in total... about 10 or 12, maybe, outdoors in the starting section of Broken Valley, and another 8 or so (without reloading) in the dungeons and after getting access to the full valley.

I just Mindread Richard so I can troggle more money from him for each heart biggrin
I have never reloaded for having more hearts.

Another question I have now, but say first this :
When I see the "video" by the Skill "Master Herbalist" ... I see a picture of a Goblin heart + a earth root (or another plant?) going together in a tankard or someting ...
I also read in a Book about this ... Okay, I know, I must not believe all things , but who know ?
I was thinking about this earlier, many times ... :
Maybe I can also use a Goblin heart (+plant) for making a healing potion IF I put points in the skill Master Herbalist ?

I never put a point in this skill. But I'm planning to do it for sure this time with my new hero "Drahume" wink

While the game lore does say goblin hearts are used for making healing potions, I never noticed any potion formula that list them. I didn't learn the Master Herbalist skill, but the description just says it reduces the amount of ingredients you need.

Hmmm ... that's pitty .. smirk ***

But despite this ... I'm sure I will put at least 1 point in this skill Master Herbalist (avaible from level 15) smile

*** And I hope next game, Divinity 3, will have more possibilities in making potions and doing "Alchemy" ... I love this ... it can give a game a "mysterious touch/feeling/look/..." !

Master Herbalist is actually of use before the battle tower, but the level limit on learning it makes that difficult. If you can get an item or two that boosts it, it can really shine.

Well, apparently any Goblin Hearts you have in your inventory when you take the Battle Tower are automatically removed from your quest item list, meaning they are intended to have absolutely no part in the game beyond the Hearttaker quest.
