Any legitimate download distribution will have the download from their website, with instructions for download included with the email receipt after payment, and likely an FAQ on their website including instructions for their download manage / game client software, etc.

Where did you get the CD-key? The PC DVD version of the game just uses a disk check, and doesn't need a code typed in. I'm not familiar with any of the digital distributions.

This may be worth reading from the site you used :

Original Retail CD Key: This product might show ideal for gamers with the original CD/DVD of the game but there CD-KEY was banned, stolen etc. Please note that the publisher of the game might not support direct digital download of the game from its website / servers. The CD-Key provided by G2PLAY comes from original package of the game and you will be the first owner of this CD-Key and enables you to play on the official multiplayer servers of the game.

Its supposed to be used if you "lost the retail key when you bought the game".

AFAIK, there is no CD key with the game, so I would assume this may be a bogus key, even if it isn't, from that paragraph I quoted, if you want to use the key, you need to buy a retail copy of the game.

Smells like fish spirit to me frown

D2:ED doesn't use a CD key, and there is no mult-player component. I'd contact G2Play and take them up on their money back guarantee.

I think even if that were true, you would still have to buy a copy of the game ..... which doesnt need a key anyway. frown

Which version are they talking about?
If there is a release that uses a CD key, that has not come up in the forum, that I recall.

Request clarification from them on the distribution this is intended for, and argue/repeat that since you have no way to activate the CD key (so it is unused and they can return it to their inventory), you would like to take them up on the money back guarantee.

If a few emails back and forth do not get you a refund, their webpage for the game is misleading enough you should have grounds to dispute the charge with Paypal or your credit card company (keep all email, etc).

BTW, double posting isn't a problem if you're adding additional relevant information.

Just a fyi, I looked at their "Myths" page and they kinda covered themselves with the following :

Myth No. 1: G2PLAY are thieves! They got my money and i have nothing.

Fact: G2PLAY never left any customer without delivering the ordered products.

You see, you got what you ordered, they advertised a CD Key, that might not be supported by the publishers .

I hope you get a refund, but you may have to put it down to experience.

If there actually is a D2:ED release that uses a CD key, then they may be able to refuse honouring their money back guarantee. Depending on the details, though, that could be more support for a false advertising argument, since they did not specify what version of the game the CD key was valid for.

In any case, if they do consistently refuse a refund, Paypal/etc may be more sympathetic. If not, you can at least go through the process; maybe enough people doing so would encourage a change, or attract the attention of a business ethics or legal organization.

If you want to persue the complaint through Paypal, there is a time frame involved, I forget the length, but after that time period, Payapl wont help you, so I would suggest that you move quickly on the problem.

Some PC games, when you install them, afterwards, thay ask you to input a CD key, before you can start the game up, this is not the case with D2, you install the game and launch it, it doesnt ask for a key.

Maybe you should contact Larian Support :

support@larian.com

Outline your problem and ask them if there is any version of the game that requires a CD key.

Hope they can help you progress this further.

I would email G2Play again and tell them you have tried installing the game but were unable to use the CD key to activate it, request clarification on what the exact distribution this CD key is for, and try to invoke the money back guarantee again.

You really shouldn't need to download every version of the game to try. Besides, if the page they are selling the key on is in English, and they don't mention anywhere that it is only valid for the Klingon localization released in Monaco, or something, then that would help your case for a refund.

IIRC Paypal's time limit is 45 days to file a dispute, and credit card companies should be a good 30 days after the statement, or so. Since there are no shipping times involved to send anything back for a replacement, there shouldn't be any delays long enough to get past the deadline.

Personally, I'd try to resolve the problem directly before contacting Larian. G2Play may be more reasonable before third parties get involved... or not, but you don't want to escalate the situation before seeing if the (implied) threat of escalation will work.
