Did you try just opening it Notepad, or another text editor? I have the Xbox version of the game, so can not check if that file is suppose to be text, binary (possibly compressed text) or a mixture of both. Welcome to the forum.

That looks like at least the start of the file may be more for the dialog animations that the actual text, though both may be included. A Google search for 'Gamebryo File Format' brings up mention of NifTools...

You could email Larian (support@larian.com) and ask if there is any hope for an official Portuguese release. There probably isn't, though, if a publisher has not done so by now... maybe for the upcoming Dragon Knight Saga release? If there are any publishers there that have localized other RPGs, you could email them and ask about D2:ED or DKS. With the German version of the game released first, there was a fair bit of discussion in other forums about getting the English text to work, though in that case the English dialogs were already included, and it was just a case of getting the game to use them without causing problems. Do you know of anyone that has translated any games into Portuguese? Are there any Portuguese modders for other Gamebryo based games (like Oblivion)? You may be able to recruit some help, or at least get pointed in the right direction.

Hello, My name is felipe da silva I live in Sao Paulo Brazil and would like to know if a translation to Portuguese - BR currently have a group of friends ema
who would love to play Divinity 2 Ego Draconis but their experience with the legends of the English game has been very difficult
My questions are:
1 - would have a translation of the game Divinity 2 Ego Draconis for the Portuguese? 2 - would be considered illegal if I even try to translate the game? 3 - if not illegal there would be a way to open the subtitle files (a program)? 4 - if it's illegal there any way for me to do the translation and send it to you (so that created a patch update)
Sincerely felipe da silva

I've already translated the game into Hungarian (well, only a couple of dialog files are left), so yes, it can be translated, but you need some SPECIAL programs, and the texts ARE NOT in the .dialog files, so you don't need those. Oh yeah, and be prepared that this game is a b*tch, when it comes to translation:D
Take a look at the current Hungarian translation (some pics;)) http://lostprophet.magyaritasok.hu/?q=gallery%2F112%2FDivinity+2%3A+Ego+Draconis (just click on the pics to enlarge them)
About the files. There are two files that are important: -MainDataStreaming.dv2 (contains every text, except the dialogs) -DialogsData.dv2 (contains the dialogs)
You have to extract the two files, and then convert the .xml files to .txt, and vise versa to work.
If anyone needs some specific help on how to translate the game (this is just a hobby project for us, so not official, hope Larian does not consider this as illegal;)), contact me by sending a PM:)
PS.: I and a friend started translating the game in February, 2010. It has LOTS of texts, and I really mean LOTS!

Hi, I found this post when I was trying to find a way to open the .dialogs files to translate them to Turkish language. I'm now the manager of Dragon Age Turkish traslation team and we nearly translate % 80 of the texts (dialogs, quests, creatures, items etc). I am also translating Risen to Turkish. When these projects finished I want to start the translation of Divinity 2 (or Divine Divinity, but alas there is no way to change the DDs dialogs other than using an hex editor) Can you explain to me how to convert xml files to txt file, and when the translation is finished convert them back. You said Divinity 2 has lots of texts, you must see the Dragon Age Origins, over 100.000 lines of dialogs (I'm not exaggerating).
