i'm playing my first time through....not real far. i'm a female wizard with no intentions on using traps or locks or any of that sneaky stuff. just gonna beef up on spells and stuff. anyways, just wondering if there is a way to open locked doors...via lots of strength to bash em open, or by using some sort of lock-picking devices or skills (if there are any).

or do all locked doors require some sort of key? or by talking to someone if its a quest or what-not.

thanks!

A lot of doors and chests can be opened by using a key that is found nearby. Press "ALT" often to see the keys that could be hidden behind or under objects on the ground. But I would recommend investing at least 3 skillpoints in lockpicks, since you get a lot more treasure this way, and skillpoints are literally a dime-a-dozen, especially later on for a mage. I maxed out Elemental Hail before I was 20th level (which wouldn't be possible normally) through buying spellbooks from a merchant (Blake in Ars Magicana). Anyway, even if you choose not to invest in any skillpoints outside of the mage path now, you'll sooner or later be tempted anyway. Trust me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

No problem. Don't forget that you need lockpicks (that can be dropped by monsters, contained in barrels or sold by specific merchants) in order to open locks. Failed picklock attempts don't use up lockpicks, but successful ones use up one. There are a lot of keys and levers that open doors, too, so look out for those before you pick certain locks.
