Im trying to get to the easter egg section and i have all the relevant items eg dwarves ale, coins etc however, i seem to have an extra piece of rope that i cant get rid off.
How many ropes did you have? If you had more than 4 then you probably had a non-special rope (a rope that wasn't from the easter egg area), and you can just discard it.
There is a screen shot in the Larian/Silver armour-screenie-spoiler topic showing what they are suppose to look like in your inventory. Drag a stack out of your inventory and hold the control key down before dropping to get a split stack pane to pop up. You may need a few tries to find the correct 4 pieces of rope.
