Hi !

just a suggestion about the combat system.

please re-think completely it.

for me and a all my friends who played Divine Divinity, it was a big let down because of the combat system. It was really only action packed, and the huge storyline, non-linear quests, ... were completely SPOILED by the combat system.

the gameplay could have been awesome but turned into killing thousands of ennemies in Diablo style.

I think the solo gameplay, non-linear quests, huge scenario doesn't appeal the same people as Diablo.

please do a turn based system (Fallout) , semi turn based (arcanum, wizards & warriors) or real time but more strategic (baldur's gate).

no more thousands of ennemies incoming and... click, click, click, click... (2 hours) click click click (what was my quest again ?) click click click... (1 hour) click click... sooooo boring.

too bad, Divine Divinity could have been sooooo great (I really think it could have been the RPG game of the year)!

I hope riftrunner will change this.

You must remember one thing. In there is only one hero, but in Badur's Gate and Planescape Torment there are teams with six people in it.In teams You can use some tactic for battle, but when You have only 1 men how do You see that combat system with only one men
If DD2 will be a multiplayer game than You will show Your agillity in combat

i dont like rpgs with teams at all its too much to cope with half the time, i much prefer just the 1, its the whole teaming thing that put me off PT

Agreed!

You are SO right about the combat system.
I LOVED DD, its plot, world and npc's.

However, the endless hacking and blasting got on my nerves, so much so as to prevent me finishing Divine Divinity which is such a shame.

I would accept fewer combat interactions but make the actual combat engine more complex, so that each fight seems like a fight to the death. Draw them out, really make you THINK about your strategy in defeating the opponent.

Take Ubisoft's Pools Of Radience as an example, although the game was flawed they got the combat engine just right.
I know it was a team-based effort but its possible to create the same atmosphere with a single player surely?
Or if it IS difficult why not let the player summon during battles only?

I sincerly believe that the rpger is sick to death of the endless hack, and would jump at the chance to think through his combat strategically.
It makes for a deeper more enjoyable game.

And why not introduce a 'bullet time' into the combat?
Making the combat engine real-time but with the time to carry out your actions thoughtfully?

You could even introduce a specific type of spell that all classes have access to.

My two-penneth worth.

NOOOOOOOOOOO leave the combat system as it is,maybe put some new things in(like dual wield weapons)but leave it as it is.the real time combat system from rulez, the monsters are not as easy to kill as they are in diablo(if in diablo u needed about 30 monsters to really have a challenge,in 10 were enough to burn your [nocando]),but they are not as strong as they are in icewind dale(were u paused every time, even for a little goblin).in the end it all comes to killing it doesn't matter if u do it pausing the game and wasting your play time thinking of a strategy because it all comes down to this:hit the beast until it falls, the producers of baldur's gate realised that so that's why they did the monsters so hard to kill,so u could fool yourself into thinking you are playing "strategical" when u are really doing the same thing as in diablo...so i don't like to waste my time trying to kill 3 goblins that are more powerful then all my party even if they are low level monsters...one last thing pool of radiance has nice story and graphics but SUX at combat so bad no person should be cursed to play it,so please don't mention this game again especially with the word combat next to it.

I hope and go multiplayer, but I don't really enjoy Baulors Gate, with the teams.

I enjoy the Infinity Engine's combat system; it can stimulate a lot of tactical challenges. All the same, I like DD's combat system as is. It's fun to sit back, relax and do mindless point-and-click now and then.

I can agree with the idea of only being able to summon creatures whilst in battle or if there is an enemy near.

Go
