Larian Studios Forums Divinity 2 - Ego Draconis (English) Technical problems Really bad Graphics problem, No Player is Visable.

I have just started this game, and although i got to see up to the beginning in great quality, to the point of the man creeping up to get the dragon, it then asked me to choose the sex, hair etc, but there was no player image to see, so I went along and just choose a random look, not even seeing it. lol, then I i see the large flying ship come in, and I start talking to someone with options to talk, like press or click on 1, 2 ,3 etc, but above the text the whole screen is all black, so I am talking to nobody.

I am re-installing direct X 9, then 10, but I know my graphics card is fine as i was just playing gothic 3. Please help if anyone is able. Also I have no idea if this version of mine is patched or not, and don't know it's current version number, but I will attempt to locate it. please help if anyone is able. Thanks heaps guys

PS: I own the Steam/Valve version of this game, and this post is posted on thier forum also, so I hope the doubling up may help I also got the latest patch and am installing it so I hope the patch will work, but I don't know how it will work with the Steam version, but I really do hope someone could set me in the correct direction of this so called file that your meant to set it's value to 0, as I cannot find any information on it and I have installed direct X 9.0c

I also do not know how to disable this PhysX setting thing for Nvidia Graphics cards, as i use the NVidia GeForce GT 240 that is spoken about in the first Aid area.

I just tried to install the latest patch, and I keep getting a debug error. I have tried running as admin etc as I am the only person who uses my computer, as i live with only my husband and he knows nothing about computers, so i have exclusive rights to all. I have also checked to see if the user settings for the patch were ok and are all ok, so what now? The patch i tried to install is the 1.03 patch, could there be an error due to it being a steam versio, or do i need to install the previous patches, or just installing the 1.03 patch is that auto meant to work, without the previous patches?

If the Steam version is not already updated (it should be) any patches would have to come through Steam.

Did you try running the game as administrator, and in the compatibility options disable desktop composition?

Have you tried a lower / different resolution, or changing various graphics options (disable HDR lighting, etc) to see if that would help?
The person in the first aid topic with a GeForce 240 was getting an error that the renderer could not be created, which apparently can be fixed by lowering the resolution and in the options checking the "don't use desktop resolution" box.

When the conversation is over, does the screen remain black?


It isn't the same problem, but there may be some suggestions in the topic below you have not already found in the first aid topics, etc.

Never ending loading screen. 100% of the time.

I basically disabled a heap of options, especially in Video settings, but I don't know which I should keep on, there are so many. When I disabled all these items, I can now see the player, I started a new game so I could redesign her look and has gone well so far.

With games from Steam, you cannot right click the desktop shortcut and choose to run as admin, you have to go into the main exec file to do that and I do not know if that works. but so far i haven't had to run as admin.

Could someone tell me the boxes that are best to be ticked for a good looking and playing setting, as I disabled a lot of them, I am going to disable the boxes you suggest, but still, it would be great for me to know which settings i should still keep. Thanks.

You can probably just enable everything you disabled one group at a time, until you encounter the problem again, and then work backwards disabling that group one at a time to isolate which one(s) fixed the problem. I've got the Xbox version of the game, so am not familiar with the PC graphics options.

I had the same trouble with a black screen turned down resolution to 1024-768 changed to medium setting it now works, it does me anyway.
