Hi all, I'm very much in doubt of whether or not I should buy and I'd like to be convinced by you people
First of all, I didn't like the demo. But I read somewhere that a lot of people didn't enjoy the demo, but liked the full game. So what's all that about? Second, I like diablo, I like Baldur's Gate, I like Morrowind. So how does hold up to them?
I'd like to hear some answers of why YOU thought it was great, but don't give me any generic responses, I've read all the reviews. No, I want to know what makes this game TICK, and if the demo is a good representation for the full game.
In a week my exams are finished, so then I'm gonna buy a game. Will it be ?
PS I'm from Belgium (Antwerpen), if that helps pursuading me PS2 I like that -'graemlin'!

Divinity is one of the best RPGs i have ever played and i have played LOTS of RPGs, One of the things i love most about divinity, the thing that ABSOLUTELY made it for me, was the ability to move or interact with pretty much EVERYTHING in the game, you can light and extinguishany any cadle you see, you can move a sack of grain aside to find a hidden stash of gold, and SO much more! and no matter what theres always a secret left for you to find, then of course there is the occasional, refreshing bit of humour in there too. Another thing that is pretty fun is buying your own house, you can put any item you can find and steal in there, lol (mine is ful of beer, its everywhere) Also there are items upon items upon items, sooo many weapons, even if they just have different stats, and the same goes for armour! yet another nice touch is the way people have attitudes towards you, the way they trade thing to you for less if they like you, and more if they dont AHHHHHH such a cool game, and theres so much more i wanna say about it!!! take it from me man, you will NOT regret buying this game!

Well, I absolutely and utterly detest Diablo 2. Yet, even with its similar combat system, I find DD to be highly enjoyable. (And I'm quite hard to please.)
For me, it's a combination of various factors. The attention to details, such as tributes to Polgara and Drizzt, along with the little odd bits like the conversation between skeletons in the first dungeon or the wishing well, appeals to me. The combat is actually fun, especially playing a mage (and I was playing one in my first time through). The first time is really the best: each map is quite large, and gives a feeling that the world is a big place (although it isn't that big; nothing the likes of Morrowind, but it certainly is a lot easier to navigate!). Unlike many other generic, vanilla RPGs, some characters in DD are memorable. (I find a certain orc particularly... cute. Ahem.)
The demo is a poor representation of the game, IMO. You don't really get to do many sub-quests and explore.

i say buy it! Now! Actually I loved the demo. After playing it for about an hour I bought the game the very next day at EBgames. I think that was the first time a demo actually worked on me.

...and it doesn't show off some of the aspects that makes so great: a huge world to discover, a huge number of varying quests to take or leave and whenever you want, wonderful music (which is a lot richer than the dungeon themes), and a lot more (that you can of course read at the features page of the Divinity website ) *edit* What am I saying -- ...that you can of course read at my fansite!

I hated the Demo, back far back when I first recieved the Demo. I bought the game 2 days before I registered on the forum. I was bored and going to college for my freshmen year in 3 months. I figured well its only $20, there is only one left on the shelf, plus the fact of the chick on the cover. Well lets just say I stared at it while holding the box in Bestbuy for a good 30 minutes. I looked it over and decided again that my purpose is just to get a hold me over RPG and then at that moment, the choice was made. Hear I am now and its not too bad. To best paint a picture its like Diablo 1&2 combined with a little Nox minus the appearence of different equipment always being shown on the character and not being able to jump. Also there is better targeting, thats all I can say.

I think I liked the demo because I never went into the catacombs... I wandered around town for a long time, killing orcs and such for experience. I also played the thief and went on a looting rampage, which was very fun. I think I liked the game more for the little weird stuff you can do (like taking off your helmet to admire yourself hehe, or making shapes out of flower pots) than for the combat alone.

>> figured well its only $20, there is only one left on the shelf, plus the fact of the chick on the cover. So Marian, this is what I mean when I say I'm concerned about the sales numbers I hereby rest my case
And for the record (yes Soul, especially for you ), could you make the next lady look more like Sandra Bullock? Please?

My view is a little bit different: I didn't like the Demo that much (too much Dungeon), but was glad as I saw *much* more Nature in the full game !

My honest opinion: read the posts on this forum.
In doing so you should get a pretty good idea of the game's ups and downs. Then judge for yourself.
If you read some of my posts, you will see that I am a VERY VERY VERY critical gamer. I will rip a game to pieces and discuss every flaw that I percieve there even if I like the thing. That being said, despite my critical nature, this game has been a pleasant surprise. I really do like it.

Criticism isn't necessarily bad. If someone is never critical of something then you know that person has rose colored glasses on (no pun, swear it ). I don't really like the long combat sequences myself, but I do love it when I grow from a 2-damage dealing sucky 1st level newbie to a 350-damage every second 30th level hero. I think there should definitely be more tactics involved with spells as you said in another thread CP, but at the same time I kind of like the "shake down the whole screen armageddon" effect sometimes. Oh wait, this thread isn't about that... nevermind.

i say buy it! Now! this being my quote, I would just like to clarify that i TOO loved the demo, and looked long and hard for the full version, which i didn't find for about 2-3 months......cuz i'm livin in the boonies!! it was well worth the wait! and i didn't find this forum till a few months after that! but i'm here now and feeling very comfortable, the ppl here are as good as the game is! coincidence.....i think not! this game rocks! and so will Riftrunner, of that i'm sure! this post below mine says it ALL....... nice post!

Awesome music, great graphics and environments, excellent dialog and voice acting in most parts (Sorry.. but Lanilor sounds fruity and the other elves.. ehh.. the lines seem like they were forced out)
Very large maps to explore, excellent ambient atmosphere, extensive character customization with the open-ended skill system. Plenty of side quests that you can do if you like, but arent necessary. Some puzzles scattered here and there, none too difficult, but enough to add flavor.
Create potions out of herbs and mushrooms with Alchemy, layout traps with Deadly Gift, enchant weapons and armor with charms.. giving even more stat and resist bonuses. Even static items, like the Blade of Chaos and Amulet of Honor (not sure if it's the right name) never have the same stats when you get em.
Personalities and attitudes on the NPC's make them notable and memorable (come on, how many of you wanted to run Janus through the moment you met his arrogant, condescending hide?)
A few references to other fantasy games and literature for flavor, as well as alot of twisted humor. Two skeletons for example, discussing the semantics of how they could possible exist.. that was funny.
That and let the reviews and accolades speak for themselves. Runner up for RPG of the year 2002, numerous perfect and near perfect reviews... Gamespot.com has almost 500 user reviews, and it still averages 8.6 out of 10.

Check back here if you run into problems with the game. This forum has some of the most helpful people I've ever seen on any gaming forum, ever. You could download a walkthrough, but even the walkthroughs aren't as thorough as some of the posts in Help/Tips/Tricks...

Very true Rose. This forum IS the best place for info and help for this game. I read some walkthroughs and they usually focus on the main quest only. So for the sub-quest you're mostly on your own.
I defently recommend to come here for help or whatever. We'll help in any way we can.
