Taken from my old thread from Divinity 2: Ego Draconis over on xbox.com. I'll make changes accordingly where any differences in gameplay deem fit. Also it will be nice to add to this with stuff that is relevant for DKS and FoV of which we can compile a complete guide for at a later date. Anyway without further ado.
There's no way in hell I will know anything and everything about this game. I'm willing to bet that even players who have completed it haven't found everything there is to find yet. However what we can do together is bring create a nice selection of tips for players as they journey deep into Rivellon.
I will add some basic tips that I think new players will find useful. Please add more tips of your own to this thread but remember:
Please keep this thread spoiler free! While this is a tips thread please do not throw in answers to puzzles without highlighting as a spoiler first, or results of storylines. Also please keep this thread on topic. First and foremost here is the
strategy guide for Divinity 2: Ego Draconis. It is viewable online or downloadable in PDF format.
And now for my selection of basic tips. I will add more as I think of them.
This game rewards the explorer. Explore everything and everywhere. Smash open every single box crate, and urn. You just never know what might be lying behind it. A skill book, chest, or maybe even a key. If you search really well you might even find hidden levers or plates that open up other areas for hidden treasure.
Defense is just as important as attack. Balance your attributes, and armour, so that you have decent defense aswell. It's all good being mighty and strong with a sword but useless if one fireball takes away half your health because you didn't spec into any magic resistance.
Leave main quests until last. They can be tough if you are not high enough level to take them on. It's generally best to level up as much as possible before taking on main questlines. Go and explore and find all the side quests you can first.
Take experience over gold. Personally when choosing a reward I always take experience over any gold or items as a quest reward. You want to get as much experience as possible to level up quicker. You'll make plenty of cash later in the game.
Remember you can respec later in the game. So if you're unhappy with a particular setup, just plod along (unless it's really that bad). Also that nice shiny set of axes you just picked up may indeed come in handy later, even if you initially specced into two handed weapons, because you'll be able to respec into dual wielding if you really want to.
Talk to everyone. Being social will definitely pay off as it can open up more quests which in turn means more loot and experience.
Save before mind reading. If you don't like the result you can just reload your game. This is the most invaluable advice one can give because mind reading costs experience.
Be wary. Not every lever or pressure plate hides something good.
Don't be tightfisted with your cash. Buy yourself good weapons and armour (you will need it), buy plenty of health potions, and anything else you think you will find useful. Don't rely on finding it in the field.
Always carry a decent bow. Regardless of proffession it gives you a chance to deal some damage on foes before they even reach you. Even if you spec into Rush Attack this can be invaluable as a tool to whittle down mobs from range and high vantage points without them even being able to hit you (Lovis's Tower is a good example of this).
Take advantage of unlimited enemies when you can. Hello Farglow village training area. What's that you say? I can kill the training goblins over and over again? While earning gold and experience each time? Sounds too good to be true. Use this to get yourself to level 2 before leaving Farglow (higher if you really want to).
Leave nothing alive. Kill every living animal you can see. It gives you experience aswell as food that will allow you to replenish some health when eaten.
Be careful handing in quests for rewards. Some equippable items you get on quests are quest items. So be careful if you just sold your nice shiny ring in favour of a better one that you just picked up from a boss character, because when you turn the quest in you might just lose it.
Some of these tips were posted in the same thread I posted mine within. Credit has been given accordingly.
Added by KrugerbaitExcellent tips Unreal, I'd like to add that you should not rely on the autosave, use the save anywhere option as often as possible especially when in areas inhabited with enemies, I've experienced a very quick death too many times through taking on some higher level enemies all at once. Save then draw out the enemies one by one to avoid becoming overwhelmed.
Added by TheSecondLetter (contains minor spoilers)Killer Bunny Fight Advice
Depending on how you look at things, this thread may contain some small spoilers, so read with caution.
As you progress thru the game, you will notice that you can kick the rabbits that are running around Rivellon. Once you kick enough of them, a killer bunny will appear. I believe I kicked between 20 and 30 rabbits. I don't know if this fight is random based on rabbit kicking numbers or if there is a specific number you have to hit. Just be wary and save often.
Be advised that this bunny is level 22 and will most likely kill you with one hit if you try to attack him at a substantially lower levels. I was a level 13 and got served the first time I fought him.
However, there is a simple way that you can kill off the Killer Rabbit regardless of your level. The Bandit camp is FULL of rabbits. The Bandit Camp is also filled with stray boxes and rocks that you can climb. If you want this achievement early, simply go around kicking rabbits and saving. Once you get to the point where you only need one more kick, travel to the bandit camp if you are not already there and kick your last bunny.
If you have a decent bow and good magic skills, simply kick your last rabbit when you are near a set of rocks that you can jump on top of. The Killer Rabbit can't jump up to get you, so just stay perched and rain down destruction. I was a level 13 and it took me a good number of hits to dust him off; but I got it done. Be sure to kick the rabbit such that your perch is close by. If you have to run from the killer bunny for too long and then try to perch, he will flee while you are attacking him and go back to the location of the kick and you won't get credit for hitting him.
Chinnyway, fun battle and an easy 30pts if you follow the steps. And this way, you don't have to wait as long to do it.
Added by DENAz666Also, make multiple saves, especially before any major event. So if you think you might be coming up to a big boss fight or moving to another area, SAVE FIRST, because some events can change the game, and you won't be able to go back to do things you may have missed. I made this mistake on my first playthrough.
