Jeuxvideo.com the largest gaming website in France just put their review online of Divinity II - The Dragon Knight Saga. We were glad to see that they were rather explicit in their praise of the game. Here are a few of the things they had to say (translated):

"Let's not beat around the bush - Flames of Vengeance is an add-on of exceptional quality"

"The design of the scenario is brilliant and exciting, and the dialogs are so well written that it seems as if they come straight from the best point & click adventures."

"The result is a magnificent experience, with a narrative quality that brings back memories of Planescape Torment."

"A great role playing gaming which you cannot afford to miss under any condition !"

Their score: 18/20

A well-deserved score. I know which game I'll still be playing in 6 months time, and it won't be Fable or COD.

Let's hope the "big" gaming sites take another look at the game as well. But I somehow doubt it..

Well, we're pretty nervous about that. I think we'd prefer no review on a bigger gaming site if the reviewer doesn't have the time to play through the full game, than a review from somebody who just looks at the game for a couple of hours, or from a reviewer who doesn't necessarily like RPGs just for the sake of having a review. Personally I think that's pretty unfair, but it happens more than is healthy.

Especially with the bigger ones, there's a risk that that happens, and we know from bitter experience that that can really ruin people's perceptions. DKS is a game for a certain target audience, and if it's reviewed outside of that target audience (like somebody comparing it to Halo 3), then it'll most likely be a bad review.

However, if it's reviewed within the context of its target audience, we can hope they'll be ok. At least, the initial signs are hopeful, but it's still early day.

There's nothing to be nervous about, chaps at Larian; this is a stellar RPG, and rarely these days does a game have me sat impatiently waiting to get home from work. Good stuff. smile

I understand that, but honestly DK:S doesnt have any major bugs nor problems that a poor reviewer can pick on it and start bashing the game from there on end. D2 had a couple of bad reviews that were mainly based on technical issues and "lack of polishment", but trust me, DK:S has none of those...

Congrats, it is well deserved.

I have been plugging your game at Shacknews for a long time and allot of the users have been responding that they like it as well that I have talked to.

My self I am a massive fan, I am so happy you re did the first version of Divinity II, brilliant idea.

The thing I think most people fail to mention and you guys deserver massive props is how you re did the loot, to me this shows your care and that you have a understanding of the genera and what rpg need to have and live for.

Just the fact that I can go back and play the first game with new loot grades and armor sets is a massive feat and bonus. I respect you guys for doing it. For future RPGs you guys make please keep Divinity Saga and FOV as template of how to set your loot grades, sets etc it great.

Next of course is your graphics engine upgrade the shadders that you use now and the lighting is phenomenal and vastly better, I truly appreciate it and respect the effort, its very nice to see the first game like it was meant to be damn the bark on the trees looks so good now.

I am gona cook up a review and post it at Shacknews and re plug the game again and wish you guys all the best.

Now you have to make Divinity III smile , I have to say just starting a new game of FOV and drooling at the loot in the armor and weapon store and seeing all those colors makes a tear roll down my cheek, THANK YOU so much \m/

PS : if there was anything I would complain about the game is that I had wished you added more spells to the trees or filled out the ones that do not hit the bottoms. Not bad one small nice to have who knows maybe it will be added in a patch smile

A really nice RPG that hopefully should sell a couple of millions, it's that good yes, can't believe this hiddne jewel was hiding itself from me for so long.

Only thing i find silly is how Damian keeps showing up and leave you with a coule of his soldiers, a little bit silly in my opinion. Maybe messengers or scouts could have filled out that role instead. Otherwise i dont have much to rant about, this game is really solid, great entertainment indeed.

Better than Dragon age, now it's said.

Up until you have the location of the Hall of Echos there is a reason for you to live, but he should have tried to finish it then.

great game I just finished it but I do have to say I miss the freedom of ego draconis in flames of vengeance. I wish there were more areas for dragon form and more places to explore dungeons, caves or flying fortresses, etc... the story for FOV overall seemed a bit too puzzly and linear for my liking.

that being said I recommend this title to any gamer, it will provide u hours and hours of entertainment and u will not regret it! any game that can make me unplug from the real world and completely give myself to it's unique world is a good game to me and DKS does that to perfection.

now that I finished the game on my 2 handed warrior I will start again fresh from level 1 and I will make a mage or archer or maybe some hybrid char, bottom line is I liked it that much that I already want to play it again!

I wish i could work for a reviewing site that is more honest then ass-kisser, thats how these "big gamne review sites" made their name, lots and lots of ass-kissing. I would not be so forgiving of this game, Ill just say this even after revamp of Ego D. there are still issues that need patched, terrain mostly. The map is seriously weak, no scroll zoom, there is no quest tracker or integrated map, the mini-map is too small and not sizable (trying to bypass using an *.ini is just weak, see patch) the only thing you can do with the map is add map markers, weeeee. This is just some of the things I found that others would not pay attention to, playing games since the Vic20/Atari gives you that depth (/smirk)
The good side, I loved the Dialogs and the voice-overs are fantastic, the Stan and Ollie guys would slip by if you werent watching closely. The humor was done nice and subtle enough to not be awkward. Then i got to the battle tower beachfront, the old sailor and the whale tale would be a spoiler if actual names were used, LOL, I would have liked to see this one drawn out longer. Combat effectiveness improves as you progress thru the levels to the point of 1 hit kills, well just about, auto-battle is on less and less, While Armor gets better and easier to tweek pretty soon your worried about whats left to sell and which set to keep, since 3 enchant slots and 3 charm slots let you do a whole bunch of tweeking while keeping spare sets. I tried to keep 4 sets of dropped pieces, one ranged one melee and one magic and one balanced. Most people would make a balanced set and thats it, as you level the game gets easier to a point that being week to magic or melee would make me actually use potions. I'm level 34 and just now getting to Aleroth.

1st Play-thru I picked Warrior (34 now), so far I have 10 ranks of Regen, Life Leech, Evade and Wisdom (been maxed all the time). I had a hard time running thru the poison fog after returning to Broken Valley due to poor visibility, but the regen kept me topped off. With only 714HP and regen is not even over 2% yet, this player must be ubah!
I started a ranger for the 2nd play-thru now that I know the major skills need to get to make the game easy as pie in the upper levels. More to Come (someday).

Thats one of the things that both makes me laugh & cry about the gaming industry, I mean if your not a fan of a certain type of game then why the hell are you reviewing it. as far as I'm concerned the reviwers need either be a little more open minded or thay need to be a bit more orginised. If you can't be openminded & fair of judgement then there in the wrong profestion. the reviewers need to either organise themselfs so they specilise i reviewing certain game types or thay need to be a bit more picky about the people thay hire to review the games.

That's the reson I never listen to reviews because 90% of the time thay talk through their butts & don't even know themselfs what the hell their even playing.
