Can people create mods for this game still? I remeber there being mods for the PC version of ED

There have not been any modding tools released. Before D2:ED was finished Larian said they would like to release such a toolset, given enough time and resources without more pressing priorities (see the old topic Is it modder-friendly?). However, work on Divinity 3 has started and they have several other projects going in addition to finishing off stuff related to FoV and DKS, so I don't know if I'd hold out much hope.

AFAIK there was only a texture mod for D2:ED, other than language conversion hacks.

Yea, I want to be able to mess with the camera controls. Other than that, great game.

Sadly, because of SecuROM, none of the files are changable. If you try to modify them, the game just throws an error at you and won't boot up:(

*cough* SecuRom aint that good you know,you can bypass it if you know what your doing. *cough*

but yea modding would be great.
(or a Developer Console,to spawn stuff xD.)

So the developers are essentially anti-modding then? That is unfortunate... Modding in these types of games is pretty standard these days.

Yeah, seems like modding might be out for this one. Modding is great fun, though, and really adds to the life of a game. I was so impressed with Oblivion (PC) that I decided to give modding a go for the first time and created CallSteed...omg what a blast. Well, lets keep our fingers, toes, and eyes crossed for possible modding opportunities. smile

The developers are actually pro-modding, in principle, it is just that in practice producing the required toolset to allow it is on their list of things that they would like to do, rather than the list of things they need to do.

That's completely understandable. If it happens, then it's icing on the cake. If not, then we still have a great game on our hands.

The Gamebryo engine lends itself well to modding as is evident in Oblivion. I guess however that it has been altered sufficiently for use in Divinity that an editor would need to be developed from scratch at the outset. Really hope that will be the case for D3 smile

For all the content that they niether used a third party app to create nor hardcoded into the game there is likely a tool to edit it in existance. That said, Developer tools for creating content are often not fit for use by modders for one reason or another.

If it were possible to workout the format (possibly with some help from Larian), then it might be possible for the community to create some tools* for simple modding such as editing the items in the game. Once such tools exist, all that would be needed it a way to use the mods without overriding the normal files (a simple way to do this would be as a command line parameter that, when present, is used as an alternate search path for loading data files before looking in the normal directory**).

* Tools that can be made without either specialized controls nor the need to parse special files (for game scripts).

** This is just the easy way; while a way to select a mod in the game would be nice if it done this way (to save time for more important things) then it would not be hard for someone to make a launcher that can be used to select a mod.
