my HDD seems to be dying so I will probably buy a new one soon and I would hate to lose my character. so my question is, how and what do I do to back my save up for DKS? (to make it more clear, I will do a full OS and game install on my new HDD)

edit: thank you for a fast and detailed response

You just need to copy/zip your saved games to another location (a USB drive, CD/DVD-R/RW and/or leave your existing drive in as secondary storage, at least temporarily).

If you have a digital distribution with limited installs, you will want to uninstall the game (while online) from the old drive and re-install on the new one, just to be safe. Changing a hard drive will probably not be enough to trigger another activation, and if you need more than the initial number allotted the process is pretty simple, but you'll need to re-install anyway, so might as well uninstall first.

In XP the saves are in the folder

C:\Documents and Settings\ %username% \Local Settings\Application Data\Divinity 2\Savegames

or in Vista / Win 7

C:\Users\ %username% \AppData\Local\Divinity 2\Savegames

If you did a lot of tweaking to your settings, you can back them up, as well (as above, but in the '..\Divinity 2\Profile' folder).

You may need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders (XP, Vista, Win 7).

Unfortunately, D2:ED saves are not compatible with DKS (there were too many changes made to enemy placement, loot, etc). You will be able to start a new level 35 character at the beginning of the add-on content, though, if you don't want to start over with a new character, or would just like to do the add-on first.

On the PC FoV does maintain compatibility with D2:ED saves, but it will not be released by itself on the Xbox (it is too large for DLC, and Larian could not get a publisher for just the add-on).

Hi,

I purchased the game through Steam and installed it on one of my computer. I would like to transfer my saves from this coputer to another. However, two problems seem to occur :

- The computer on which the game is installed is running Windows 7 (64 bits if it matters) and I can't find the directory you indicated in your previous response, neither in the steam files.

- The computer to which I want to transfer the file to is running Windows Vista (32 bits if it matters). Would there be an issue regarding compatibility ?

Thanks by advance for your answer.

@teratogenic:

the save games work regardless of your windows version

The save game folder only gets created after you made a save game. You could just create it manually but it is probably easier to just start up the game, make a save game and then use search for .dxg files, open the folder where you found it and just copy your saves into the folder (you will prob have to overwrite the savegame you made).
