First I would like to say hello to everyone, so hi there <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I bought DD yesterday after much anticpation, the game installed without any errors but when I run the configuration for graphics it bring ups Direct 3D at 640 x 480 with Smoothness, when I test it, it goes to a black screen and does nothing else, I have left it running for 5 mins.

It runs Warcraft, Generals and Diablo without any problems. I can run it with Direct Draw but the graphics are not as good and seeing I have a graphics card I really would like it to work - any suggestions?

NVIDIA 6 Channel Surround Sound Card
Nothing running in the backround this computer was bought a week ago all the lastet drivers have been installed.
1032MB Paging File regulated by OS
Game version 1.029 with latest patch 1.034)
40GIG Harddrive - No partitions and 25.9GIG Free
DirectX 8.1
Colour Depth 32 bit?
Additionals: No additionals I have just got the game

Hmmm, i have about the same configuration and i work perfectly with me.
Try running the game without the test. Sometimes the test doesnt work correctly.

Also try changing colordepth to 16bits. Helps alot!

Yes, like joliekiller says, try skipping the test. It might work. If not, let us know. For now, I can't think of another solution. Hope it helps you.

Thanks alot changed the setting and it seems to be working fine now.

Sorry to bother again, but I am now expericancing two diffent errors, the one the game just shuts down, when I try and start up again tells me the configuration is wrong.

The other windows tells me there has been a error, the error report is this:

AppName: div.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.34 ModName: slash3.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000022ac

Any suggestions?

Everytime DD does not properly shut down. You will get that menu saying the configuration is wrong. As for the error I kept getting the same error message for awhile. What I did was clear dynamic files and keep trying to load the game. Everytime the game closes and, causes the error. Clear out the dynamic files again until you get to play the game.

Um stupid question - how do I clear out the dynamic files?

Go to the dynamic-folder under "\Divine Divinity\Run\" and delete all files there.

You have Enchant Weapon and are clicking on an equipped item with a Charm Quality?
The charm pane is likely opening off screen. Run the configuration program and increase the resolution, start the game, open a charm pane, move it into the center of the screen and close it. Quit, run the configuration program again and restore the original resolution; now when you re-start, they should open on screen.
If you are already playing at 1024x768, you can edit the config.div file to play at a higher resolution, such as 1280x1024.
