Reviewers are a funny breed and regardless of how they review a game someone is going to disagree. Best bet is to find someone that seems to review games well that you actually like. If they are doing honest technical reviews then for the most part you probably won't go wrong by listening to what they have to say, taking it with a grain of salt of course
I seem to be an oddball though when it comes to computer games in that I look at the cost of the game in entertainment time dollars. Unless it is something I just don't like it is very difficult for me to not get the equivalent of say going to a movie costs entertainment value out of something. e.g. unless the review says the game is completely broken I am likely to feel like I get my moneys worth out of a box

Games like Divinity are pure win for me because 100 hours worth of entertainment for the box cost is extremely cheap! Comes out to be something like forty cents an hour. can't beat that!
