Hello Larian Studio Forums smile

Got bored of waiting for TW2 and sick of the dev's lies, so I have this waiting at home for me.
Any good tips or tricks for a new Divinity player? I'm going with a melee fighter with a touch of magic. I read a while ago about collecting monster parts for a summon? I'm intrested in this very much.

Also Larian studios seem like a really good company, was surprised to see the dev's taking such a active role in the forums. Something Reality Pump could use.

You will need to put points in Vitality at first, later on it's less useful.

Putting a few points in either Ghost or the healing spell will help too (you can reset that later in the game if you really want too).

Hand-to-hand isn't as good as the other options, which are all viable ones.

Other than that... do what you want, it's all fine.

Ok thanks, I didn't want to play for 5 hours then realise that I've made the wrong choice at start. What is Ghost?

first 2 skills in the "priest" side of the skill tree/chart are 2 summons, an undead and a ghost, the undead has blade arms and will shoot fireballs and melee, the ghost floats there, shoots fireballs and casts heal on you.

I'll sound pretty dumb, but what heal spell? I just see the Leech skill and Potion Efficiency as healing skills aside from Ghost.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just realized I can scroll down in the skill list. LOL

It took me a while to figure that out actually lol, I was trying to figure out what else to stick points in because I've learned pretty much everything I wanted to.. then I realized I could scroll down.

Also, theres the ability to exchange health for mana, which I found useful occasionally as well, but I haven't tested to see if it costs more mana to cast the heal spell than the health to mana spell gives in mana

Oh and, leveling up lock picking mind reading and wisdom are all useful as well.
lock picking for more loot yay.
wisdom gives an extra % of xp to every xp gain, I sort of just threw points here when there was nothing else to level
mind reading will lower the xp cost of mind reading people, which is half the time, very important to do. Some npcs will have to be mind read in order to progress in quests, some NPCs will give you extra skill points or stats if mindread, some will give you opportunities to ask for items they have if mineread, and theres a lot that will reveal hidden keys to locked chests nearby (in their houses, you thief.) though there are also a lot that just provide some flavor and laugh but nothing else.

While a bit costly to mind read when in the single digit levels, its a bit easier on the xp later on, especially if you pick bonus xp rewards for finishing quests to cover the mindread xp loss, but don't worry too much about loosing xp to mind reading (or you can save and reload after every mindread if it reveals nothing useful) theres also a mind reading guide floating around somewhere.

Then if you have any other question ask in topic :P

And honestly I can say the best way to feel this game is to test yourself all.

Thanks Nasuradin, Ghost sounds quite good.
Can never have enough loot so I'll make sure to invest in lockpicking, Is there anything I need to do early for summoning a creature made from diff body parts?

Edit:Sorry Amnariel, I had posted before I saw your thread.

summoning your frankenmonster is enabled by story a fair distance into the first half of the game, so theres nothing to really do other than collect any parts you may find prior

Welcome to the forums smile

Yup, if you want a kickass, tough as nails tank by your side, the "Frankenmonster" is an absolute must-have. Follow the questline and eventually you'll meet a necromancer who'll get you started. If you somehow get stuck, there's the help forums you can browse or simply make a topic and 9/10, you'll get help.

As far as melee/caster goes, I played trough the game the first time as a 2h warrior, with firewall and missiles and it worked just fine. It's all about investing points in skills you find fun to use. Money shouldn't be a big issue in the game, especially not once you get your tower going and you can respec straight away.

The only hint I could give you is to keep your Vitality at a decent level. Spirit isn't all _that_ needed if you invest a point or two in "Mana Leech" so then it's all up to strength and intellect.

Have fun!

Thanks all, Enjoyed my lil session last night (4 hours) Put a few points into Vitality and Picklock.
Was having trouble with a certain ghost in a basement till I equiped a sword with magic damage rolleyes

Loved the fact you can open chests without karma loss etc. Also the music in broken valley village is really good. looking forward to getting back into it after the work day.
