Is there any possibility that DNS includes native support for alternate control devices, such as microsoft's xbox 360 controller for windows?

I had a look through options and nothing jumped out at me as a way to enable the controller, but im hoping its there somewhere. Ive been working at using 3rd party software to get the controller to function properly with DNS, but that is becoming rather tedious.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

You don't know? You work here smile

Dae: the game doesn't support controllers. The PC game and the console game are different in user interface and in controlling your character, so it might not even be such a great experience.

I play risen/minecraft on the home PC with a gamepad: rumblepad2(couch patato-style)
It's also not supported, but the gamepad has a program to assign keyboard-keys to gamepad-buttons or sticks. If you have an other brand of gamepad I'm sure there are some free-ware programs like this.

I just set the right stick to mousemove and the mouse-buttons to gamepad-buttons and WASD to left stick and it works fine.
Most of the time you need a bit of mouse sensitivity-tweaking in the game.

Thank you all for your responses. Mr.Loma, I started on assigning all the different keys to the controller last night via 3rd party software and at this point it really acts and feels just like it would on an xbox 360. The only places im running into trouble with that approach is getting target lock to function as it should and browsing inventory boxes.

Are there shortcuts when browsing the inventory of items in DNS (pc version)? Such how one could press the "B" button to close the item's inventory box and "X" to take all items on the xbox 360 version of D2:ED.

I hope so because that little tiny "x" is tedious to click on every box...even on a 60" tv, lol.

I use a rumblepad with Pinnacle Game Profiler. Works great for me!

For closing the inventory boxes when you open a chest. Since the latest patch you can just click the mouse button again (right trigger for me) and it will collect all and automatically close the box.

If you are using Pinnacle I can send you my profile.

Dunno about the take all, but you can close the inventory and most other windows by right-clicking on them.

How did I miss that eek

and here ive been painstakingly moving the curser to click each item and exit button. hahaha

@kirii
Thanks for the offer, I'm also using pinnacle. I'm not familiar with the rumblepad and no sure how a mapping profile setup for it would work with a 360 controller, but I am curious how you mapped out the target lock feature?

Thats interesting. Im having to map the controls on the 360 controller to keys in pinnacle and then assign those keys to the function in DNS.

Example: map right trigger to "j" and then assign "j" to "jump".

Is there a more efficient way to get pinnacle to interface with the game, kirii? Because the outlines you posted make it look like pinnacle is directly interfacing with DNS, making "left trigger" = "jump", not "left trigger" = "j" = "jump".

What I did was first look at the default assignments in the game and write those down. Then in pinnacle I made the entire list of commands with labels. So I would make a command called "Jump" and assign it to the space bar in Pinnacle.

This way if you want to play with the k/m at some point your button assignments are still default. Also, if you ever have to delete your config file for some reason you don't have to completely re-assign the buttons in the game.

Once I had all the commands in my command list in pinnacle I started making the profile.

My profile has all of the commands in the game already setup using the games default keys so if you wanted you could load my profile. You can then delete my controller config and start making your own for an xbox controller.

In order to access all the menus easily I recommend using a shift button. So my D-pad is normally inv/map/skills/quests but if I hold down my left trigger (shift) the d-pad becomes save/load/quick save/quick load. The same is for my 1-4 buttons (or x,y,a,b for you). They are the 1-4 quick slots normally, then shifted they are 5-8.

Hope this helps!
