Been trying the zeppelin escort mission for over two hours now.

Read posts on forum, got dragon armour, using patriarch skill as often as I can and lowered difficulty level.

I can't even get past halfway before my zeppelin is destroyed!

I'm playing on PC so it's mouse and keyboard and I know that my twitch skills aren't very good but I can't be this bad!

Do you have to take out all the towers to stop damage to your zeppelin?

I really need help here since ,having played the game since Farglow,I'd hate to miss the ending.

As soon as the cutscene is over, create a Hard save. check your inventory to make sure your Dragon is wearing all offensive stuff and all the skill points are spent. Now make a Quick save. Watch the series of arrows eminating from the Zepp. They indicate the path it is taking. Stay on that path and keep clearing ahead of the Zepp. Don't stray off too far from that path. If you do, the Zepp catches up and gets itself in trouble. Q-save when you feel the Zepp is secure with lots of health, so that you don't have to go all the way to the beginning if Murphy's law strikes at you.

Also, don't let your Fire Ball go idle. That's your dmg dealer. Always hit with #1 key first and then finish off with your Breath (mouse Left button) while the Fire Ball is cooling down. As soon as it's charged, hit something with it and follow up with Breath.

Go after the Nests and the lightning towers. Don't concentrate on the ballistas.

After the midway point, you'll be able to tell the Zepp what to fire at; select lightning towers for them while you take out the entire island with your super bomb.

Good luck cheer ing for you!

There is a bigger fireball spell (placed in slot 2 if I remember well) that can destroy big areas.

There are areas with a nest (or an electric tower) in the middle and several towers around, target the central one and use this spell to destroy the whole area.

Use the spell in slot 1 (the small fireball) to lower the life of the target while you approach then dive and finish with the fire breath.

From the middle part you get an additional "spell", you can request the zeppelin to strike a target (slot 7).

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies and your best wishes.

I'm afraid that after another 90 minutes I'm not much further forward.

I can, with difficulty, get my zeppelin to the point where the golden arrows turn sharp left, with 2/3 health.

However at that point it gets destroyed very quickly.

I've no idea how much further there is to go at that point.

Presumably,if my zeppelin is being destroyed so quickly,I've not taken out enough of the opposition.

At the turn there are two large islands, one right, one left. I've only managed to take out either one so far and cannot do the second because the patriarch attack takes so long to cool down. Perhaps this is the problem.

I can't believe I'm finding this so hard. Maybe it's easier with a game pad and I'm the first to admit I'm not very good with keyboard and mouse, but on easiest difficulty I'm still finding it impossible.

Therefore,I believe that there is some method to doing this that, despite all my attempts and all my searching of the boards and the help I've been given above,I'm still not understanding.

I'm an old fashioned RPG'er and I've found some of the more console-ish parts of this excellent game difficult but I've always managed after a few tries.

I would be very disappointed if I could not finish this "action RPG" because my console skills are not good enough.

I've played ED through twice and now DKS right through,I've never done this with any other game before (except Wizardry 8) which shows how much I've enjoyed it.

I do not want to feel that this time has not been well spent because the game ends with a console episode that I do not have the skills for.

If anyone thinks they might know what I haven't understood about how to complete the zeppelin mission,I would be very grateful for their help.

If it's simply a matter of my console skills not being good enough,I call it poor game design to have a vital mission in a RPG that can only be completed if you're fast enough on the keyboard.

I had the same problem and had to restart 3 times until I understood how to use each spell.

For example at first I used the big fireball on a single target, then once I fired in an area with several targets and saw all of them blow.
Then I used this one exclusively on area with several targets.

Try out the different spells as I described above. Do not hesitate to use your summoning (the wyvern) it takes some blow for you and the zeppelin.

At the time the zeppelin tells you they can strike a target (and you get the ability in slot 7), you are at the middle. At the last try I reached this point with the zeppelin full life.

Ah and do not simply follow the zeppelin. Go ahead of him as fast as you can.

Lol, I completeley forgot to mention the wyvern. Yes, make sure that you have one up in the air at all times. They're a great distraction for the enemy and take a lot of punishment away from you when you're leading the Zepp. Find the sweet spot distance ahead of the Zepp and don't go too far ahead of it. If you do, the enemy will lose their focus on you and turn back to the Zepp. You need to do all you can to keep their focus.

Snuck onto the game late last night, after family stuff done.

As J.B. Hickok used to say,"well, boys, then they killed me".

And they did,for about forty minutes but I could tell I was getting a bit nearer each time.

It's surprising how much it helps having a wyvern up there.

Finally, with my zeppelin down to about 10% health, the cut-scene suddenly broke in and I had done it!

Grateful thanks to Shaver and Imarion for the help and encouragement you offered in my time of need.

I still say this is badly balanced though,I found it insanely difficult in comparison to anything else in the game.

Yeah, it's not one of the more popular parts of the game for that reason. I'm another one who really struggled with it before I finally finished in much the same way as you experienced, when the cut-scene arrived in an unexpected and entirely welcome manner!

Congratulations on finding the perseverance to get through it. smile

Congratulations.

I personnaly had more difficult with the final fight than with the Zeppelin part (due to some previous decisions), I won't spoil it.

all that i know is that this mission is a really lot of XP...

when i started this mission i was at 10% of lvl 47
when i finished it i was 5% or so of lvl 48....

i didnt notice the zeppelin at all i just rushed forward and destroyed all that in the way...
when i finished the zeppelin had around 95% hp
and almost all of the battle towers were destroyed (again, i got a whole lvl in here in high lvl)

This level doesn't fit the rest of FoV-- so you have little choice over gear and skills, and little knowledge about how your dragon works (unless you used those skills in ED). If the devs had given us some training and decision making BEFORE this point in the game, this mission would be much better.

if you played from the beginning you should have your dragon armour pieces put them on instead of the the default ones'

1. I sold the dragon armour I had which was a mistake!
2. I use wyvern and use Eye of Patriarch on large islands with a Lightning or nest tower
3. I use main skill all the time as I know 2 fireballs kill 1 ballista
4. I try to be ahead of zeppelin on the oath and my dragon does not die
RESULT: STILL NO WAY TO DO IT , STILL I DIE AT THE END (WHERE THERE ARE MANY ISLANDS with many towers on them, at about 80%of the way) !!!
I am desperate! Oooh, that is the hardest thing I have seen in an rpg!
Plz is it possible for one of the "pro dragons" here to send me on e-mail a SAVE which is done right after passing the zeppelin quest! I wanted to see the end of the game and I hoped Damian will be there to kill but I can't now!

I complete the zeppelin escort on my second try.

Just remember to use your fire ball and breath a lot. Timing is crucial on which to take down and do it asap. Once you take X out go for Z next asap.

The last fight is even tougher jaja

Just beat the game. i wanna kill the bald guy next!

Still i got so much question... why did Ygerna never change even through she saw through my eyes on how the people suffer and why did she grant me the dragon power knowing I'll destroy her in the end?

Here's how I beat that part.

As soon as the level begins, summon Wyvern. Never use the firebreath ability, it puts you in too much danger. Spam Fire Sphere or whatever it's called, the first ability that just shoots a regular fireball. Every time it cools down fire it again. On hard difficulty for me the ballista towers fell in 2 hits. If you have any health loss activate the healing spell every time it cools down. Once you clear the first set of ballista towers, feel free to continue far far ahead of the zeppelin taking down everything in your path. Whenever it cools down, use the patriarch ability on a cluster of 3+ towers to wipe them all out. Never use the ability that does damage in a radius around you, you have to be too close and it puts you in danger. Always be moving, I was constantly holding the "strafe sideways" button to fly in a circle as I spammed my first ability.

I died the first time I tried the level, but the second time, using what I described above, I completed it with ease.

same . I did use E all the time, so maybe thats the problem. using e or mouse2 button will pretty much let you avoid getting any hits at all ( imo ballista arrows are way too slow to even make it challenging) + you can get much moar ahead of your zeppelin .

i just stoped infront of the fortress, waited for balistas to shot at me first than i "rushed" with E infront of them burning 3-4 out and rushed back , waiting for balistas to shoot at me again & repeat the drill . Use healing zeppelin help and fireblast(??-the fireball thing) ASAP do not wait .balistas have the same shooting intervall all the time so all you need to do is to get to them while reloading. and even infront of them you have a big chance of sucesfully doging them by using E . Your priority should be the nests , electro tower (i mostly let zeppelin to take care of those and rushed onto ballistas) and than balistas . Hopefully this helps, it seemed very easy to me .
