Hello,

I just got Dragon Knight Saga for the xbox 360 and after installing it and starting a game I've noticed that the screen is very zoomed in compared to the demo I played before, and gameplay videos I've seen online. I redownloaded the demo to double check that I wasn't mistaken and confirmed that the screen is extremely zoomed in.

The hotkey maps have the down arrow and the "A" button partially cut off, as is the top of the minimap, and both the hot keys and the minimap look horribly pixelated. The main characters back also fills up a very large portion of the screen - to the point that I cannot see what is going on in game [approx 40% of total screen space].

I have tried changing my settings from 720p to 1080i and 1080p and nothing has worked. I can't see an option in the menus either. It is as if the game is 4x3 and has zoomed in because it's on a widescreen television.

If I can't find how to fix it I will be taking the game back in the morning [about 9 hours] - I checked for a patch and there was none on xbox live.

I hope you guys can point me towards a solution, as I realy want to play this game - the demo was excellent and it looks like a great fantasy game.

Thanks,

The Sletch.

It should look something like this: http://i55.tinypic.com/33xzytt.jpg

What you are look at though is 1080i HDMI PC.

Crazy Idea's off the top of my head to try as I have no idea and very sorry for wasting time and going over things you may of tried or know about already...

The game is 100% 16:9 widescreen compatible as you can see in the picture of my screen. I have tested both 720p in the past and 1080i is fine (Max my screen will do).

Are you using a HDMI lead, have you tried using a Component lead... or the other way around?

Is your 360 in 60hz or 50hz? (I don't think you can change it tho via HDMI and it's locked to 60hz). Does your TV support 60hz as some early LCD screen did not do 60hz in the UK.

Have you looked to see what your TV it's self is displaying? Maybe the game is being displayed in a mode that your TV has not been yet set too? Maybe try Auto Config or Reset if your TV has these options. Strange as it reads, your problem sounds more like a VGA thing when a new screen mode is being displayed for the first time that has yet to be stored in to the screens memory...

Can you set on your screen HDMI PC. HDMI PC will in fact display more than HDMI DTV. As an example at 720p HDMI PC will display the full 1360x768 pixel ratio where as HDMI DTV will cut the sides off.

Do you have another screen to try your 360 on? Any friends or family have a 360 to test.

Have you tried the crappy Composite video lead that come with the 360 to see how it displays?

Try 480p as this gives you an option to display it in normal and wide.

I have not looked at the demo as I have the full game and 2GIG is a couple of hours work for me. I have an LG screen.

Sorry once again.

From your screenshot - that is exactly how the demo looked on my tv. The full game for some reason had basically the centre bottom half of the screen - half the minimap is cut off, as is the A and Down hotkey icons. Also if the 4th dialogue option has 2 lines then the bottom line is cut off. It's like it's zoomed on the lower centre section of screen.

I spoke to the guys at the game store, who said because it's christmas I will have until mid Jan to return stuff, as opposed to the normal 7 days. So I'm going to hang onto it and try a few of your suggestions [I tried most of them last night but I'm gonna see if there's a problem with putting it on a relatives Xbox while I'm off on vacation for the next couple of days].

FWIW - I'm using the HDMI cable with my xbox, and I run it at 720p at 60hz normally. I will try connecting my xbox to my computer monitor - I hadn't before because 40" > 17", so it seemed a little pointless.

Thanks for your advice so far, here's hoping.

Can you provide us with a screenshot?

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Sorry for the late reply, I was away for the a little while, visiting relatives.

I found that it had the same issue on my relatives xbox and couldn't get it to display properly, so I returned it to the store and swapped it for a new copy, which works properly [I uninstalled / reinstalled on my xbox first]. I guess the disc must have had some kind of weird production error which was causing it to display oddly. I didn't take a screenshot first though, sorry.

I have noticed my screen still doesn't look the same as Dungeon Masters - my hotkeys rest on the bottom of the screen, not above it. Here's a screenshot of how it looks now (sorry for the quality, I had to use my cellphone and it has an automatic flash) - Screenshot.

While it doesn't look the same as Dungeon Masters, I am very happy with it now (can see everything), and really enjoying the game - loving the humour. In fact, I think I'm going to have to try and find the first one when I finish this one.

TheSletch,

I think what you are viewing now is very respectable and what most people are in fact seeing! smile

You may have some last adjustment you could do and that would be to resize the image from your TV control if it allows you to do so. Stretch it in say... If not don't worry. Not all TV's display the same.

My 28" LCD was £800 back in the day... who in their right mind would pay that now for one, and the thing is some features have been taken away which is why they are cheaper now. wink

If you recall I was going on about HDMI PC and HDMI DTV, my TV can flick between the two. I will show you what the difference is and then you will have peace of mind with your own.

This is what most people will see.

As I said HDMI PC displays the true pixel ratio of an image, for me that is 1360x768 and you can see the whole picture has moved in so I see more, check between the two images.

door far left
flower bottom left
tree leaves top right
stairs far right

and of course the HUD has a bigger gap between the bottom of the screen in HDMI PC. So this is why on my original shot you can see more.

Very strange that just by changing the disk it sorted your problem out! Good job you never took it back for a refund as I can read you are enjoying it now! claphands

Anyways best of luck and once again enjoy!! up

One more picture. My son bought a copy of DKS today with his xmas GAME money card my oldies bought him - GAME doing it for £27.99 now.

I was just setting him up and we got into the game and noticed his screen is the same as your - the HUD is almost to the edge so this is cool for you as well to see another example.

His is running in HDMI DTV 1080p - Samsung LCD TV.

Cheers, Dungeon Master. I wrote a reply yesterday to this thread, but it didn't turn up - I guess I clicked preview instead of submit?

Anyway, I'm totally happy with it now that it's working correctly (and really don't mind that it looks different to your shots - everything is in proportion on my screen and looks fantastic). I'm just glad that my sister had the exact same problem with a game previously (Halo Wars) and told me to go replace it - I was on the verge of giving up and grabbing Two Worlds instead.

It's an odd problem, to be sure, and I'm more suprised that my xbox let me install it at all. The replacement copy had to be reinstalled - it wouldn't work with the original installation (which is probably futher evidence that the disc had an error in it's production).

Cool. Thanks for the tip that a second copy may need to be installed. I was going to try something with my son's disc but yet to get around to looking into it being busy with xmas an all.

Once again have fun! smile
