Is there any way to kick Tilian's butt for what he's done and avenge Saul? I have been doing this quest as follows and it bothers me every time:
I mindread Tilian to get the Chalice and go free Saul. The other option is totally out of the question for my character. I want to punish Tilian, not Saul. With the note from Kenneth recommending Saul, I feel like I'm missing something by not utilizing that note.

I'd like to close by quoting Bellegar's famous last rhyme:

"Cursed be the mother that bred thee!
The wench must have been a hell-spawned banshee!"

I read somewhere that there's a bug in the quest where the positive outcome for Saul doesn't really happen, though I'm not sure if that's also responsible for the lack of consequences or if the option simply doesn't exist. I'd also like to kick the old git's bum for stitching up Saul but have had to just leave him sitting there looking smug and insufferable.

I think you're right, it may be bugged. That quest certainly is not running logically.

Problem solved:
Knowing what's coming up, I first went to High Hall to get the portal activated there. Then I went to the Dragon Cliff and got the Chalice quest. Finally, when I went to confront Tilian, there was now a 3rd option that I had never seen before. I'm not sure whether it was the new patch that put it there or the sequence of events I chose this time:
Speaking with Tilian:
3. My Dragon Slayer days are over, my good man. Or at least, the Slayer part.
--------
1. I am now the last Dragon Knight, and I'm here to claim the Chalice!
--------
1. Just hand it over, or feel my wrath!
--------
Taking this route, you don't even have to mindread him. He'll attack you and you get to whoop him along with several of his elite Slayers. He drops the key to the chest the Chalice is in, and the guard drops the key to the portal that takes you to Penitence to rescue Saul. Plus a ton of extra exp.

This is the ending I was looking for. Even Talana was pleased with me smile

I have a feeling the option was there, but it's not one I'd selected; in spite of wishing to confront him about Saul, it didn't quite fit. But for me to make the connection, it often has to be really obvious!

I love it when my character does the random "feel my wrath!" line, though: she sounds so utterly unconvincing. grin (Which is part of the charm of that particular voice, before anyone thinks it's a criticism...)
