Is there a way of extending the bar so we have more than just 8 slots please?

Cheers.

No, having only 8 slots on your action bar, and as such having to make tough choices what skills to bring to certain battles, is part of the game. This is not WoW.

I couldn't have said it better even if I tried smile

I'd like to close by quoting Bellegar's famous last rhyme:

The wench must have been a hell-spawned banshee!"

Umm, yes you could, you could have been polite about it without the sneering condescension.

Theonus explained it in such a perfect way that I could not have improved on. What's impolite, sneering or condescending about that?

Now, if I had asked you if those were the 3 "word-of-the-day" that you learned today and using to memorize, or had told you to wipe your nose and go to your room, I would be borderline then wink

We don't know that you weren't actually sneering while you were typing, though. Or Theonus. Or both of you. I mean you could have been. You might be sneering right now for all I know. That's the problem with a text-only medium: you never know when someone's secretly sneering.

I can assure you, I most definitely was not trying to be condescending. I was just trying to point out that if there's one thing I learned from the Divinity games (been a fan ever since Divine Divinity), it's that the game holds you by your hand for exactly 5 minutes and then proceeds to throw you in the deep end.
RPG gamers have become accustomed to gameplay where creative and out of the box thinking are actually discouraged. We're so used to having an NPC pointing us in the right direction and the minimap telling us exactly to go withing 5 centimeters of the quest objective, it's become harder and harder to actually cope with anything that takes us out of our comfort zone of EZ mode gameplay.
So if there's anything I wanted to say with my post it's this: Buddy, you better get used to making tough choices, cause which 8 buttons you wanna put on your action bar will only seem like it's hard to manage until this game grabs you by the nipples and tells you you only get to keep one.
Seriously, I meant no offense, do not take it personal or as an insult to WoW players (guilty as well if you should wonder).

@Vometia: I'll never admit! <makes funny faces at the screen>

@Theonus: His stupid remark was targeting me, not you Theonus.

@Theonus:

I tend to agree, though for me personally, having a limited number of options actually makes things easier: compared to, say, Dragon Age where you can extend the quick-selection bar thingy I find I often lose track of what I have available because there are so many actions, spells and what have you. Fortunately being able to pause helps in that situation which makes for a different style of gameplay, but sometimes you want to be able to actually play in real-time in which case an easily-memorisable selection can be more productive. Which isn't a disagreement, just a different angle on it.

[And I figured I should point out to anyone who's wondering that I wasn't being serious in my previous comment about sneering! Probably unnecessary, but I've got into trouble more than once when people have thought I was serious. :o ]

@Shaver:

:P

Oh nooo mister, you're not going to get away with that so cheaply! I think you were very very very serious about it. I resemble that remark!

I'm frankly offended, no, shocked by... something or other. I'll have to settle for looking aghast while I decide what exactly.

FWIW, in the Xbox version of D2:ED when the game was paused you could hit a shoulder button to bring up a list of available potions, items and spells/skills. Any item/skill that did not need a target could be triggered when paused, which may be good enough for occasional use (that is what I did for healing potions), if you can do the same in the PC version of FoV/DKS.

Divinity I had a larger amount of customizable hotkeys. This was an area that was skimped on in Divinity II. Only 8 spots meant a lot of pausing and opening up context menus to use consumables, or alternatively, spells. Very limiting. Also, having a large amount of hotkeys or a large quickbar isn't necessarily an MMORPG thing. Dragon Age, for example, had a simple and elegant quickbar that you could expand to the width of your monitor. Even with all its tactical, pause-and-issue commands style battles, gameplay was more fluid in Dragon Age because you had real time access to all your spells, talents, and consumables.

Thank you for all of the replies, particularly for the humour. It could have gone a much different way and I appreciate it.

I was obviously being too sensitive and for that, I apologize.

As for the above, no, I too got really fed up of games being put into "simple mode" (especially WoW before I finally freed myself) but on the other hand, I did appreciate the efforts games made to give us customization of our UI and that is the only element I was focusing on. To my sensitive mood I was obviously having that day, it seemed you were going beyond that in you reply and lumping me in with all those easy mode seekers. heh.

Anyway, thanks again and yes, I've made the tough decisions and I'm still absolutely loving this game. It is my first Divinity by the way as the first one somehow got by me.

Cheers.
