I am starting the game for the first time and took both a warrior and ranger type up to level 5 or so. I was thinking I would focus mainly on archery but I was wondering if it would gimp me if I wanted to put a bunch of points into dual wielding so I can tackle enemies up close if needed. Has anyone tried this out? I think it could be fun but I don't want to spread my points too thin and regret it.

Early on I used a bow, just kept my dext high enough to equip bows (which isn't that high) it was useful for attacking enemies from afar. Towards when you take on the flying fortresses I relied more on your swords and flame wall. Though did use the bow to kill a few tough monsters and for luring purposes.

Dext also helps in accuracy of hitting with swords.

Think I put about 20-25 in vitality and only enough str/dext to weild swords. After that went on to add str and I think 3 to wisdom and 5 to dext total in ED portion.

Every time there I run into trouble on the road, there is always a dwarf at the bottom of it. Don't they know how to drive above ground?

I would say at first start off on the ranger spec side you ll find it easier to get through broken valley ( or i should say faster/easier ) till u get to the o fjords/ lvl 15, then you can start mix matching you pionts i would look for items that give you a plus to exploding arrows / whirl wind/ rushattack and balance the pionts u spend accordinly(or fireball i know its not a ranger spec but it gives u another ranged attack ) in the end you will have plenty of skill piont to be able to make a nice balance of the 2 classes
for ranger i put a good amount into vit , dex then spec intel and strength .Intel and strength will deteremine you weapon damage on the dual weiding depending on the weapons u get and make sure to careful look at weapon stats and enchantments while some weapons looks like junk they may have some sweet enchantments on them that you may want to use on your prefered weapon

ps idont think i left broken valley till i was almost 18 or so
