You can experiment that easily. But, I think you'll find out that you cannot inflict damage on them unless all 4 candles are lit, be it for a brief time. The room is full of obstacles. Try jumping instead of running from corner to corner. Also, don't stop to fight what's hitting you. With luck, you'll make it.
